EASY CAST-IRON SKILLET PIZZA

Easy Cast-Iron Skillet Pizza image

This recipe is sponsored by Target. I am certifiably pizza-obsessed. Several years ago, I went to a pizza school called Verace Pizza Napoletana, whose mission is to "defend the honor of Neapolitan pizza." To me, there is no pizza better than a Neapolitan pizza margherita. A thin, bubbly crust made of double-zero flour, simple tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil, and fresh basil, cooked in 90 seconds in a 900 degrees F (480 degrees C) wood-burning pizza oven. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Let's be honest, though, it's not realistic to make that kind of pizza at home very often, if at all. If you find yourself with a hankering for pizza, and you want to whip up a homemade version without waiting for dough to rise, this is the recipe for you. Homemade pizza dough with just two ingredients-Greek yogurt and self-rising flour-and no wait time for it to rise. It's food science at its best!

Provided by Katie Lee Biegel

Categories     main-dish

Time 30m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 tablespoons extra-virgin oil
1 cup (240 milliliters) Greek yogurt
1 cup (125 grams) self-rising flour
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 cup (60 milliliters) pizza sauce (jarred or homemade), such as Good & Gather™️ Traditional Pizza Sauce
4 ounces (1 cup) (115 grams) grated low-moisture part-skim mozzarella, such as Good & Gather™️ Mozzarella Cheese
2 tablespoons (1/2 ounce) grated Parmesan, plus more for serving, such as Good & Gather™️ Parmesan Cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Brush a 12-inch (30.5-centimeter) cast-iron skillet with 1 tablespoon of the oil.
  • Mix the yogurt, flour and salt together in a medium bowl with your hands until it becomes a ball, then flatten into a disk and press into the skillet.
  • Brush the pizza dough with the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Spread the pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch (2.5 centimeter) border around the sides, for the crust. Sprinkle the cheeses evenly over the sauce. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until bubbly and lightly browned, then let cool in the pan for 3 minutes.
  • Carefully slide the pizza out onto a cutting board. Top with more grated Parmesan, slice and serve.

UPSIDE DOWN ONE PAN PIZZA RECIPE BY TASTY

Upside Down One Pan Pizza Recipe by Tasty image

This upside down deep dish pizza recipe comes together in one pan. Cook the onions and green bell peppers, then assemble the pizza in the same pan - just cover with dough and put in the oven for 20 minutes. Be extremely careful and be sure to wear oven mitts when flipping the pizza out of the pan.

Provided by Katie Aubin

Categories     Dinner

Time 1h5m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, seeded and thinly sliced into rings
nonstick cooking spray, for greasing
½ cup pepperoni, sliced
¾ cup grated parmesan cheese
¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
7 slices provolone cheese
2 cups pizza sauce
all-purpose flour, for dusting
1 lb pizza dough

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a 12-inch (30 cm) cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, add the onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • Add the green pepper and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • Turn off the heat. Grease the pan with nonstick spray.
  • Arrange the pepperoni in an even layer on the bottom of the pan. Top with the green peppers, onions, Parmesan, and mozzarella. Arrange the provolone slices over the shredded cheese in an even layer. Top with the pizza sauce and spread evenly.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to a 12-inch (30 cm) round. Gently lay the pizza dough over the pizza sauce, making sure the dough reaches to the edges all around. Brush the dough with the remaining tablespoon of olive oil.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, until the dough is golden brown.
  • Carefully remove the skillet from the oven. Place a large baking sheet on top, then quickly invert the pizza onto the pan.
  • Return to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes, until the pepperoni begins to crisp.
  • Slice into 8 wedges, then serve.
  • Enjoy!

CAST IRON BREAKFAST PIZZA RECIPE BY TASTY

Cast Iron Breakfast Pizza Recipe by Tasty image

Flour, eggs, cheese, sausage... can you tell what we're making before the reveal?

Provided by Amanda Berrill

Categories     Breakfast

Time 55m

Yield 6 Servings

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 lb breakfast sausage, casings removed
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk
½ cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 large eggs
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
14 oz pizza dough, or 12-14 ounces of store-bought pizza dough
2 tablespoons fine cornmeal
2 cups frozen tater tots, cooked according to package instructions
freshly ground black pepper, to taste
hot sauce, of choice
2 teaspoons fresh chives, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • Make the gravy: Heat a 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes. Add the sausage to the pan in a single layer, and cook, without disturbing, until browned and crispy on the bottom, 3-5 minutes. Flip the sausage and brown on the other side. Once browned, use a flat-sided wooden spatula to break up the sausage and continue cooking until no pink remains, about 2 minutes more. Transfer the sausage and any excess oil to a plate lined with 2 layers of paper towels. Set aside.
  • Without wiping out the pan, return the pan to the heat and add the butter. Once the butter melts, add the flour and, using the wooden spatula, scrape up any sausage bits stuck to the bottom of the pan. Continue to cook the roux, whisking constantly, for 2-3 minutes, until it is bubbling slightly, light golden brown, and fragrant. Slowly stream in the milk and cream, whisking constantly so no lumps form. Bring to a simmer and cook, continuing to whisk, until thickened, 5-7 minutes. Season with the salt and pepper. Transfer the gravy to a heatproof bowl and set aside.
  • Make the pizza: Carefully wipe out the skillet. Place the skillet in the preheated oven to heat until smoking, 10-15 minutes.
  • While the skillet is warming, crack 1 egg into a strainer and let the excess watery whites drain out. Place the drained egg in a small bowl. Repeat with the remaining eggs and set aside.
  • In a small bowl, toss together the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.
  • Unroll the pizza dough onto a piece of parchment paper and shape into a 12-inch circle. (If needed, trim away the corners of the rectangle and stretch the center outward for a rounder shape.)
  • When the skillet is hot, carefully remove it from the oven and place on a heatproof pad or trivet. Sprinkle the cornmeal evenly over the bottom of the skillet.
  • Working quickly and carefully, use the parchment to flip the pizza dough into the skillet and tuck the edges underneath the dough to form a crust. Spoon ½-¾ cup gravy over the dough and spread evenly, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges for the crust. Top the gravy with half of the cooked sausage and two-thirds of the cheese. Scatter the tater tots over the top.
  • Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and gently pour the eggs onto the pizza, spacing evenly. Season each egg with a pinch of pepper, then sprinkle the remaining cheese and sausage all over. Return to the oven and cook for 10-12 minutes more, until the egg whites are cooked through, but the yolks are still runny.
  • Let the pizza cool for about 5 minutes before using a large spatula to carefully transfer it to a cutting board. Top with the remaining gravy, hot sauce, and the chives. Slice and serve immediately.
  • Enjoy!

EASY CAST-IRON SKILLET PIZZA

Easy Cast-Iron Skillet Pizza image

This came out well and was so easy to make. Kids loved it! I used a 10" Skillet in this recipe. The pre-made pizza dough I like best is from the Chef Boyardee Pepperoni Pizza Maker kit because it can sit in my cupboards a long time. It comes with enough to make 2 pizza doughs. All you have to do is add water, let it sit a bit and it's ready to go! However, I've seen pizza dough ready to go made at your local grocery stores and other various ways. This is just a super easy method to get some really good pizza for the family. The skillet cooking method gives it a professional taste like you would get in a restaurant. I really enjoy it.

Categories     < 30 Mins

Time 27m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 thick pre-made pizza dough
1 (12 ounce) can tomato sauce or 1 (12 ounce) can spaghetti sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1 -2 tablespoon olive oil
1 -2 cup mozzarella cheese
1 dash salt & pepper
1 dash italian seasoning
pizza toppings

Steps:

  • Put cold skillet on cold burner. Add the olive oil, italian seasoning, salt and pepper coating the bottom of the skillet.
  • Spread the ready dough to the edges of the skillet filling it around with the dough. Some of the oil might come up around the top, thats cool. Let the dough rise for about 5 minutes.
  • Add your sugar to the tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce. If you are using only plain tomato sauce, add some of that italian seasoning in there and a little bit of oil and salt.
  • After the 5 minutes, coat the top of the dough with the sauce. I like a lot of sauce, so I make sure the top layer is coated well. You probably won't use the entire 12oz. I'm not sure cause I don't know the size of your skillet. Mine is a 10" wide skillet.
  • Turn on your oven broiler. When the broiler is hot and ready. Turn on the burner under the skillet to medium high heat and set a timer for 5 minutes. You'll notice the dough start to bubble a little bit, but we won't be cooking it here for long. It's just to get it started and to get that bottom nice and brown. Start adding your cheese and toppings. NOTE: It might be easier to use chunks of mozzarella vs shredded because it will take longer to melt and allow the dough to cook properly without over burning the cheese. So keep the cheese cold in the fridge until you're ready to use it.
  • After the 5 minutes on the burner we are going to transfer the skillet to the oven under the broiler. My pizza was in there approximately 5 minutes. You'll want to watch your pizza and use a knife to see how well your dough is cooked on the bottom and sides. When it's nice and brown and the top is nice and golden, take it out. Let the pan cool for a bit and then transfer your pizza to another cooler surface so it stops cooking.
  • Salt and sugar can be adjusted to your needs and preference. It's not a big deal. Its' pizza. It's hard to screw up. Just keep an eye not to burn it!
