Cinnamon Sugar Bread is like eating a cinnamon & sugar cake donut but better. Easy & delicious this bread is ready to devour in an hour.

1 tablespoon butter
1 1/3 cups sugar
4 teaspoons cinnamon
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup canola oil

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 9x5x3'' loaf pan with 1 tbsp butter and set aside.
  • In a small bowl combine 1/3 cup sugar and 3 teaspoons cinnamon, stir together and set aside.
  • In a medium mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon and remaining 1 cup sugar. Sift together to combine.
  • In a small mixing bowl whisk together egg, milk, oil and vanilla extract. Stir by hand into flour mixture until combined.
  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle with half of the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  • Add the remaining batter, using a butter knife swirl batter. Then top with the remaining cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  • Place in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool loaf pan on cooling rack for 10 minutes. Remove loaf from pan onto a large plate. The loose cinnamon and sugar will come off onto the plate. Carefully press all the sides of the bread onto the cinnamon and sugar that comes off onto the plate. Slice and serve.

I wanted to make a bread that would be both delicious and visually appealing to look at. This is bread is not actually braided. The way you roll it out and slice it creates the appearance of it being braided. This taste like a giant cinnamon sugar covered doughnut. Its very flaky and light in texture. You could add a powdered sugar glaze, raisins or leave as is. I love the way it looks when its done, and it couldn't be easier to accomplish the look. Enjoy!

BREAD
2 cup(s) all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/2 cup(s) warm milk - not hot, but warm
2 1/2 teaspoon(s) active dry yeast
1/8 cup(s) melted butter
1 - egg yolk
1 tablespoon(s) sugar
FILLING:
1/4 cup(s) butter, softened
5 tablespoon(s) sugar
3 teaspoon(s) cinnamon

Steps:

  • Mix the yeast and sugar with the warm milk and let it sit for 5 min, until the yeast bubbles up.
  • Add the egg yolk, the melted butter, the flour and the salt, then add to bread machine and run the dough cycle. Allow cycle to complete.
  • Preheat oven to about 400 F. Flour your surface and roll the dough out to a thickness of 1 cm.
  • Spread the melted butter across all of the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  • Roll up the dough, and using a knife, cut the log in half length-wise.
  • Twist the two halves together, keeping the open layers exposed. Then transfer to a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Top the remaining butter and sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon mixture. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
  • Reduce the oven temperature to 350 F after 10 minutes to stop it burning. Top with whatever you like and Enjoy!

Steps:

  • Lay your pizza dough flat on your work surface. Spread softened butter all over the dough, then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
  • Roll up the dough, split down the middle, and twist one half over the other with the layers exposed. Twist and join the dough into a circle.
  • Place on parchment paper, brush on egg wash, and sprinkle more sugar on top.
  • Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 40 to 45 minutes.
  • Let the braid cool for a bit before dusting with powdered sugar.
  • Enjoy!

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix together the yeast and warm water. Set aside while the milk cools to lukewarm.
  • The the mixing bowl with the yeast, add 2 cups of the flour, the sugar, salt and cooled milk mixture and beat with the paddle attachment until smooth.
  • Switch to the dough hook and gradually add 21/2 cups more of flour while mixing on medium speed, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary, until the dough forms into a ball. This should take about 2 minutes of mixing.
