Balsamic Strawberry Walnut Pizza with Fresh Mozzarella and Basil image

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 ball Whole wheat Pizza dough
10-12 thinly sliced fresh mozzarella cheese
fresh basil leaves
1 cup fresh strawberries sliced
1/4 cup walnuts
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 cup fresh strawberries diced

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • In a small pot mix the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar. Bring to a boil, reduce and let it cook for about 10 minutes. Add the strawberries and let it cook for about 5-6 minutes.
  • In a pan dry roast the walnuts until fragrant.
  • Lightly flour your surface and roll your pizza dough into a 10-12 inch circle. Cover your sheet pan with parchment paper and transfer the rolled dough onto the parchment paper.
  • Drizzle some balsamic reduction over the dough. Follow with the fresh mozzarella and walnuts all over.
  • Arrange the strawberries all over and bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes.
  • Once it's done scatter fresh basil all over and drizzle some of the balsamic sauce.

Steps:

  • Boil 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar with 2 tablespoons honey, 1 bay leaf and a pinch of salt until thick, 4 minutes. Discard the bay leaf; let the syrup cool. Beat 1 cup mascarpone, 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla with a mixer until soft peaks form. Toss 3 pints quartered strawberries with half of the balsamic syrup. Serve with the mascarpone mixture and the remaining syrup.

You can make your dough, or purchase uncooked pizza dough from the bakery dept. of your supermarket.This pizza is very rustic, and very similar to true pizza, in Italy.The fresh ingredients are essential to how good this is.

1 (4 ounce) portion pizza dough
1/2 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
1 large plum tomato, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon sliced fresh basil
4 slices fresh mozzarella cheese (thin slices)
1 slice country ham (optional) or 1 slice smoked ham, cut into thin strips (optional)
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450°F Shape pizza dough ball into 6-8 inch circle on a lightly floured surface.( Circle doesn't have to be perfect) Place dough on a piece of prachment paper. Fold up edges of dough, forming a 1 inch border. Brush oil evenly over dough with a pastry brush, or drizzle evenly over dough.
  • Cover pizza dough circle loosely with plastic wrap, and let rise in warm place, free from drafts, 15 to 20 minutes. Heat pizza stone or heavy baking sheet 10 to 12 minutes in oven. ( I think the pizza stone is much better than the pan).
  • Remove and discard plastic wrap from dough. Layer tomato, and next 3 ingredients evenly. Sprinkle with pepper. Carefully transfer dough on parchment paper to pizza stone.
  • Bake at 450F for 10 minutes or until crust is golden.

  • Place all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to boil. Turn to low heat and simmer till it thickens. This will take about 15 mins. Set aside to cool.
  • Slice the onion into thin slices. Heat a frying pan over med-low heat. Add about a tbsp of butter and then add the onions. Sprinkle with a little salt. Cook until the onions get nice and browned and caramelized stirring every couple of mins. This will take about 10 - 15 mins. They don't need to be super browned, just slightly.
  • Heat oven to 500 degrees if you have a pizza stone or 425 degrees if you are using a baking tray or something else to cook your pizza. If you have a pizza stone, put it in the oven now to heat with the oven.
