Baked Beans with Ground Beef and Bacon image

Baked beans with ground beef and bacon are a satisfying side dish for BBQ dinners and cookouts! Baked beans are made sweet with brown sugar. They are made even better with added smoky flavors from hickory-smoked bacon and liquid smoke!!

Provided by Angela

Categories     4th of July     BBQ     Memorial Day     Side Dish

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb ground beef
4 strips hickory smoked bacon
1/2 cup brown sugar ((light or dark))
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 Tbsp liquid smoke ((Wright's hickory))
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 28 oz cans Bush's Baked Beans ((original flavor))
green pepper ((optional, diced and sauteed))

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F ( 205 degrees C ) and set out a large casserole dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium high heat, add the ground beef and allow it to cook until browned. Break the ground beef up while cooking. *If you want to add onion or green peppers, cook with the ground beef.
  • Once the hamburger is browned and the grease has been drained, add the brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Wright's hickory liquid smoke, and season with ground black pepper. Stir well to combine. *You can use either light brown sugar or dark brown sugar, if you have dark brown sugar on hand it will add a deeper flavor from the higher molasses content.
  • Open your cans of Bush's Original Recipe Baked Beans and drain off the liquid that is settled at the top of the can. Add the beans to the ground beef mixture, stir just enough to mix well then transfer into your casserole dish.
  • Cut your bacon into 1/2 wide strips and place cut bacon onto baked beans, or use kitchen shears and cut the strips directly onto the beans in the casserole dish.
  • Bake uncovered at 400 degrees F ( 205 degrees C ) for 30 minutes. If you want extra crispy bacon, broil for 5 minutes after baking.

COWBOY BAKED BEANS RECIPE (OVEN OR SLOW COOKER)

Cowboy Baked Beans Recipe (Oven or Slow Cooker) image

Cowboy Baked Beans (aka Calico Beans) are loaded with ground beef and applewood smoked bacon. A great party food recipe for large groups.

Provided by Lisa Hatfield

Categories     Side Dish

Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb bacon (applewood smoked )
1 large yellow onion (chopped)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 lb ground beef
48 ounces baked beans ((don't drain))
32 ounces kidney beans ((drain))
16 ounces cannellini beans ((drain) )
32 ounces black beans ((drain))
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons yellow mustard

Steps:

  • Decide if you are going to make them in a slow cooker or bake in the oven. You can use a deep casserole dish or large pot like a dutch oven. I like a large heavy cast iron pot so I can cook in it and finish baking all in one. Slow cookers are great for parties to keep them warm for several hours.
  • Chop the sliced uncooked bacon into small pieces, over medium heat, brown the bacon in a heavy cast-iron skillet or a large cast iron dutch oven on the stove top using a wooden spoon. Tip, you can cut the bacon into small pieces with clean kitchen scissors right into the pot-I find this faster!
  • Remove the crispy cooked bacon to a small bowl with a slotted spoon. Don't remove the bacon drippings from the pan. Next add the chopped onion and brown for 5-6 minutes until translucent, add the minced garlic, stir for one minute.
  • Next, brown the ground beef, cook for 6-8 minutes. Next, add the bacon, back in with the cooked ground beef, onion, and garlic.
  • Next, add 3 cans of baked beans (don't drain), 2 cans of kidney beans (drain), 1 can of cannellini beans (drain), and 2 cans of black beans (drain).
  • Add the remaining ingredients; brown sugar, cider vinegar, ketchup, and yellow mustard. Stir all the ingredients well to combine.
  • Place into the slow cooker or large dutch oven or large deep casserole dish. The baked beans usually doesn't all fit in one standard 9 x 13, you need a deeper dish.
  • Cook in slow cooker crockpot on low for 2 hours OR bake 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours in a large covered dish. Serve hot.

EASY BAKED BEANS RECIPE

Easy Baked Beans Recipe image

Savory baked beans with ground beef, brown sugar, and bacon.

Provided by Anne Clark

Categories     Side Dish

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb Ground beef
2 each 28-oz cans baked beans (Bush Original)
6-8 strips Hickory smoked bacon
1 cup Dark brown sugar
1 cup Green onions, chopped (approximately 1 bunch)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Black pepper
Dash salt (taste test before adding salt!)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400F.
  • In a large pan or iron skillet, cook the ground beef and drain off the fat. Add the dark brown sugar, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper. Mix well. Pour off and discard some of the liquid but don't drain all the liquid from the canned beans. You want to pour off just the little bit of liquid that's settled on top of the beans. Then add the canned beans and gently mix. Taste the mixture and add salt if desired; gently stir again. Over mixing will cause the beans to get too soft and/or mushy.
  • Pour into a large casserole dish. Lay the bacon strips on top. MY BEST TIP: Cut the bacon first, with a pair of scissors, into approximately 1-inch squares. Then spread the chopped bacon on top of the beans. This method makes serving the beans a lot easier as you don't have to deal with the bacon flopping around! Also, it ensures everyone gets a bite of bacon.
  • Bake in the oven uncovered for about 30 minutes. Then, turn on the broiler and broil the baked beans for about 5 minutes to get the bacon nice and crispy.

INSTANT POT BAKED BEANS WITH GROUND BEEF

Instant Pot Baked Beans with Ground Beef image

These might be the best beans in the world! It's hard to stop eating them they are so delicious. The original recipe had them in the slow cooker for hours, or baked for a couple of hours in the oven, on low heat. But, they're absolutely wonderful in the Instant Pot, take a fraction of the time, and you only have one dish when it's time to clean up. This one will definitely be a favorite. You can serve them as a side dish, or even a main course. Keep this one handy!

Provided by Michelle

Categories     Dinner

Time 22m

Number Of Ingredients 19

1 pound of ground Sirloin
10 slices of bacon
1 large sweet onion - finely chopped
1 teaspoon of minced garlic
1 cup of Ketchup
1 Tablespoon of honey mustard
1/2 cup of barbecue sauce (I used Country Bob's)
2 Tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup of Brown Sugar
2 Tablespoons of white sugar
1 can of tomato sauce (12 - 14 ounces)
1 teaspoon of coarse ground garlic salt
1 teaspoon of seasoned pepper
1/2 teaspoon of coarse ground pepper
2 Tablespoons of Molasses
1/2 cup of water
1 can of dark red kidney beans - rinsed and drained - 14 - 16 ounces
1 can of butter beans - rinsed and drained - 14 - 16 ounces
1 can of navy beans - rinsed and drained - 14 - 16 ounces

Steps:

  • Press the Saute button on your Instant Pot, and add the bacon. Cook until the bacon is browned and crispy, and turn off the Instant Pot Remove the bacon to paper towels to drain. Turn the Saute setting back on, and add the chopped onion to the bacon grease, and cook until it starts to turn golden brown. Remove the onion to a small dish, and set aside. Add the ground sirloin to the Instant Pot, and cook until well done, browned, and no longer pink, and break the sirloin into small pieces while cooking.
  • Turn off the Instant Pot, and make sure the meat is crumbled. Add the garlic salt, seasoned pepper, and coarse ground black pepper, and stir. Add the onions back into the Instant Pot and stir with the meat. Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, white sugar, garlic, and molasses, and stir well to blend. Add the kidney beans, butter beans, and navy beans, and stir. Add 1/2 cup of water, and stir. Crumble the bacon, and add the bacon to the Instant Pot, and stir all ingredients together to blend well.
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot until it beeps and locks. Set the pressure valve to 'SEALING'. Press the 'MANUAL' button, and set the time to 12 minutes. Allow the Instant to build and release pressure. When the Instant Pot is done, make sure all the pressure has been automatically released. It will take about 10 minutes for the pressure to build, and the Instant Pot will cook the beans for 12 minutes, and then it takes about 20 minutes for the Instant Pot to release all the pressure; check the flow valve, and make sure it's all the way down. With a pot holder, gently turn the pressure valve to 'VENTING' and make sure all the pressure has been released. Remove the lid of the Instant Pot, and stir the beans. Serve immediately. Enjoy

Upgrade baked beans from classic side dish to a meaty main meal by adding lean ground beef. The final result, a superfast hearty casserole, is an easy and fast dinner option. Ground turkey or even sausage would work nicely in this dish. Just watch the sodium.
