SAVORY CHEDDAR CHEESE BACON AND ONION SCONES



Savory Cheddar Cheese Bacon and Onion Scones image

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 1/2 cups self rising flour
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons onion, chopped and sauteed
2 tablespoons bacon, chopped
3 eggs
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup cheddar, grated

Steps:

  • Preheat the grill on a medium flame.
  • Using a medium sized bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, onions, and bacon together. Let the mixture rise for about 30 minutes.
  • Then add the eggs, buttermilk, and cheese. Continue mixing until a firm dough is formed. If the dough becomes a little watery, just add a little more flour.
  • Place the dough on the counter and with sprinkle with flour. Then flatten it out with your hands. Using a circular cookie cutter, cut out 2-inch rounds.
  • Line a small pan with parchment paper, and place the cut outs in the pan. Sprinkle desired amount of cheese on top and place the pan on a grill, lid closed, for 15 minutes.
  • To plate, slice in half and spread with butter, or preferred topping.

This five ingredient gluten-free recipe made with Bisquick® Gluten Free mix yields delicious results - savory scones that are buttery, bacon-y and cheesy delights.

2 cups Bisquick™ Gluten Free mix
4 oz gluten-free Gruyère cheese, shredded (1 cup)
6 slices gluten-free bacon, crisply cooked, crumbled
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400°F. In large bowl, stir together Bisquick mix, cheese and bacon. Stir in whipping cream until dough forms.
  • Divide dough in half. On surface sprinkled with Bisquick mix, pat each half into 6-inch round. Cut each round into 6 wedges. On ungreased cookie sheet, place wedges 2 inches apart. Brush with melted butter.
  • Bake 18 to 22 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Serve warm.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, pepper and cayenne. Add the butter and work it into the dry mix with your fingers until it turns into uneven crumbs. Add in the Gruyère, bacon and green onions.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the two eggs and cream. Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients, just until evenly moistened; the dough will be very sticky. Liberally flour the counter and your hands. Pat the dough into a 8″ x 2″ round.
  • Carefully transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet. Cut into 8 wedges, separating by about an inch. Brush with beaten egg.
