This recipe is reminiscent of the classic BLT or bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. It's a great summertime salad!

1 pound bacon
¾ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
salt to taste
1 head romaine lettuce - rinsed, dried and shredded
2 large tomatoes, chopped
2 cups seasoned croutons

Steps:

  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat, turning frequently, until evenly browned. Drain, crumble and set aside.
  • In a blender or food processor, combine mayonnaise, milk, garlic powder and black pepper. Blend until smooth. Season the dressing with salt.
  • Combine lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and croutons in a large salad bowl. Toss with dressing, and serve immediately.

How to make the ultimate BLT Sandwich! Everything from toasted bread, perfectly cooked bacon, thick slices of tomato and avocado, and of course our 3-ingredient sandwich sauce that makes this the best BLT recipe you'll try.

8 slices of bread (cut 1/2" thick)
12 slices bacon
2 large ripe tomatoes (thickly sliced)
4 green lettuce leaves (rinsed and spun dry)
1 large avocado (or 2 small avocados pitted, peeled and sliced.)
salt and black pepper (to taste)
1/2 cup real mayonnaise
2 Tbsp sour cream
2 tsp yellow mustard

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400˚F. Place bacon on a foil-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until browned and crisp then transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to cool.
  • In a small bowl, combine sauce ingredients and set aside.
  • Lightly butter both sides of the toast and toast on a dry griddle or skillet over medium-high heat just until golden brown.
  • Arrange 4 slices of bread on a cutting board and spread 1 Tbsp of sauce over each toast. Add lettuce then tomato, bacon, avocado. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the avocado.
  • Spread 1 Tbsp sauce over the remaining toasted bread and place over the sandwich, sauce side down. Cut in half if desired and serve.

8 slices maple bacon
1/2 cup Hellmanns Mayonnaise
1 teaspoon fresh thyme (Chopped)
1 teaspoon fresh marjoram (Chopped)
1 teaspoon fresh oregano (Chopped)
1 serrano pepper (Minced)
1 dash fine sea salt
1 dash white pepper
8 slices sourdough bread (Toasted)
8 romaine lettuce leaves
8 slices heirloom tomatoes (Brandy Wine 1/4-Inch Thick)
2 English seedless cucumbers (Peeled and Sliced 1/4-inch Thick)
1 pint large curd cottage cheese

Steps:

  • Sprinkle black pepper over bacon and cook bacon crisp. Set bacon on a paper towels.
  • In a bowl wisk together mayonnaise, fresh herbs, Serrano pepper, salt and pepper.
  • Toast bread and spread 1-tablespoon Serrano Mayonnaise over each slice.
  • Layer lettuce leaf, tomatoes, cucumbers, bacon and lettuce. Slice sandwich in half and place on a plate.
  • Garnish sandwich plates with cottage cheese and kosher dill pickles.

Based on a recipe my mom served - which was probably based on the Greek tzatziki. Wonderful for warm weather meals.

4 -6 cucumbers
1/2-1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill (use more or less, to taste)
1/4 cup mayonnaise (use more or less, to taste)
1/4-1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic
fresh ground pepper

Steps:

  • WASH the cukes and score lengthwise with a fork. If you detest cukeskin, then by all means peel them.
  • SLICE the cucumbers into thin rounds, place them in a bowl, and salt generously. Let the cukes rest for a few minutes. (If you're in a hurry, you don't have to wait very long: Just be sure to use less salt.).
  • SEASON the salad: When you're ready, pour off the liquid and mix in the mayo, dill, garlic, and pepper.
  • ~~Notes~~.
  • Let the salted cucumbers rest for at least 10 minutes to draw out bitterness - longer you have time or are multitasking. If it's going to be a while before you season the cukes, stick the bowl in the fridge.
  • I use the feathery fronds from 5-6 stalks of dill and discard the stems, 'cause my family doesn't care for them. Chopped fresh parsley is nice in this salad, too.
  • Timesaver: Use commercially prepared chopped garlic.
