The Best Healthy Apple Crisp Recipe with Oats (No Flour!) image

This Healthy Apple Crisp recipe features tender baked apples with a crunchy oat topping. An easy, flourless and healthy apple dessert recipe.

4 apples, (cored and chopped)
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup rolled oats ((certified gluten-free if necessary))
1/2 cup coconut sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup grass-fed butter, (softened to room temperature)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • In a medium bowl, combine apples, lemon juice and vanilla. Spread apple mixture evenly in a medium baking dish.
  • Combine oats, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Cut the butter into the mixture with your fingers until it forms a crumbly consistency.
  • Sprinkle oat mixture evenly over apples.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.

This is a good apple crisp made with one of my favorite sugars for baking. I love cooking with anything organic so please, enjoy!

10 apples (tart organic)
1 lemon, juice of
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup flour (all purpose unbleached)
1/2 cup sugar (sucanat)
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup walnuts (finely chopped)
1/2 cup margarine (or non-hydrogenated substitute)

Steps:

  • Peel & slice apples.
  • Mix together apples with lemon juice and cinnamon.
  • Place mixture in a greased 9" x 13" baking dish.
  • Combine oats flour, Organic Sucanat, salt, cinnamon and walnuts in a bowl.
  • Mix in the margarine substitute with your fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Spread evenly over the apples.
  • Bake for 25 minutes at 375 Degrees or until apples are soft and topping is brown.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (176 C) and set out an 8” x 8” baking pan (or something similar).
  • To a medium mixing bowl, add sliced apples and top with remaining filling ingredients. Toss to combine. Transfer apple mixture to the baking pan and pour any remaining liquid over the apples.
  • Wipe out your mixing bowl and add all topping ingredients. Stir to combine, then use fingers to break down any clumps of sugar. Sprinkle over apples in an even layer.
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes (uncovered) or until the filling is bubbly, the apples are very fork tender (especially in the center of the dish), and the topping is a deep golden brown.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Generously grease an 8x8 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • To make the topping: Combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and pecans in a large bowl until well-combined. Add in the pieces of butter and use your hands to squeeze and combine until the mixture becomes crumbly and resembles wet sand. (Alternatively, you can cut in the butter with a pastry cutter, or place all of the topping ingredients in a food processor and pulse until just blended. My favorite method is to use my hands, as I believe you get the best crumbly topping that way.)
  • To make the filling: Place apples, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and bourbon (or vanilla) in a large bowl and toss to combine. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes.
