YAKUZA: ALL OF THE MAIN GAMES' COMBAT SYSTEMS, RANKED …
From gamerant.com
- BONUS: Best Combat Systems In Spin-Off Yakuza Games. Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan! Set in Kyoto during Japan's Edo period, Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan! places a lot of emphasis on weapons; something that would eventually go on to play a much larger role in the mainline series.
- Yakuza 0: Mayhem And Variety Pushed To The Max. Yakuza 0 does its best to incorporate all of the positives of the franchise's various combat systems and experiments over the years.
- Yakuza Kiwami 2: A Near-Perfect Fighting Experience. The Dragon Engine combat system returns in Yakuza Kiwami 2, fixing most of the issues that people had with it in Yakuza 6.
- Yakuza 5: More Characters, Less Problems This Time. Yakuza 5 takes the shortcomings of Yakuza 4 and fixes nearly all of them. Saejima still has issues controlling exactly how players want him to, but every other character in the game has a pitch-perfect and unique fighting style and personality that far surpasses those found in previous entries.
- Yakuza: Like A Dragon - Surprising RPG Action. Yakuza: Like a Dragon doesn't just reinvent the wheel, it throws it in the trash. This Yakuza entry features turn-based RPG combat, inspired by new main character Ichiban Kasuga's love of Dragon Quest.
- Yakuza Kiwami: A Brand-New Beginning. The combat of Yakuza Kiwami, the remake of the first Yakuza, is more or less identical to the combat system of Yakuza 0, though now only featuring Kiryu.
- Yakuza 6: The Song of Life: The Dragon Reborn. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life was the first Yakuza game to feature the tricky Dragon Engine combat system.
- Yakuza 4: More Characters, More Fun, More Problems. Yakuza 4 was the first of the series to include multiple playable characters, for better and for worse.
- Yakuza 3: A Whole New Era Of Enemies Constantly Blocking. Yakuza 3 was the first Yakuza game made for the PS3 generation and has since been made available for PS4 and Xbox One owners to play (along with Yakuza 4 and 5) as part of the excellent Yakuza Remastered Collection.
- Yakuza 2: A Modest Improvement Over The Debut. Nearly identical to the combat system of Yakuza, the fighting in Yakuza 2 mainly offers a handful of quality of life improvements.

- Mix Up Your Combat Styles With Weapons. Weapons are a great way to keep the combat style of Yakuza Kiwami fresh and interesting. After all, there are only so many times that Kiryu can fight with his bare fists before it simply becomes too much to handle.
- Don't Repeat The Same Heat Actions Over And Over Again. Using Heat Actions is paramount to enjoying Yakuza Kiwami's combat. Watching Kiryu absolutely brutalize enemies never gets tiring.
- The Block Button Is Your Friend. Given how aggressive Yakuza Kiwami's combat system is, you can't really be faulted for going all-out offensively in every battle.
- Carry Around A Ton Of Good Quality Restoratives. Yakuza Kiwami places no restrictions on letting Kiryu guzzle down recovery items when they're in a pinch.
- Quickly Changing Styles In Battle Is Key. Yakuza Kiwami features a more refined combat style for Kiryu, coupled with the ability to change battle styles on the fly.
- Get In Touch With Komaki To Upgrade The Dragon Style. The Dragon Style is easily one of Kiryu's most powerful battle styles, but it's woefully underpowered when you start Yakuza 0.
- Destroy Normal Enemies With Attacks But Dodge Around And Land Careful Blows On Bosses. For the most part, normal enemies will become nothing more than cannon fodder in Yakuza Kiwami.
- Increase Your Heat As Quickly As Possible In Combat. Heat Actions are the bread and butter of the Yakuza series. This applies to Yakuza Kiwami as well, where Heat is in short supply early on.
- Don't Rely On Beast Style Too Much. If you're a veteran of Yakuza 0 getting into the sequel — well, a sequel from a chronological standpoint, that is — you might want to start tearing stuff up in Beast Mode.
- Learn The Essence Moves As Soon As Possible. One thing that Yakuza Kiwami doesn't tell you properly about the combat system is the Essence moves. These moves can be used on bosses that start regenerating health, with a tutorial describing the same when Kiryu's in prison.
