Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the two flours, the powdered milk, oatmeal, peanut butter and wheat germ. With the mixer on low speed, add the extra-large egg and 1 cup of water and mix just until it forms a slightly sticky ball.
- Dump the dough out on a well-floured board (I use all-purpose flour) and knead it into a ball. Roll the dough out 1/2-inch thick. Dip a cookie cutter in flour and cut out dog bone shapes. Collect the scraps, knead lightly, roll out again and cut more dog biscuits.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared sheet pan and brush with the egg wash. Sprinkle with oatmeal and bake for 1 hour, until completely hard. Cool and toss.

HEALTHY NO BAKE COOKIES
I played around with my family's No Bake Cookie recipe and produced a single portion of this cookie that I feel is healthy enough to eat as a meal. They're still very good but are much healthier. I keep getting asked for the recipe, so I finally decided to measure out the exact portions and post the recipe. THIS RECIPE IS VERY FLEXIBLE! When I make them I NEVER measure out anything and I often add more or less of ingredients and they still taste great. I sometimes leave out the wheat germ and flax seeds and just add more oatmeal. I have made these replacing the sugar with about 3 tablespoons of honey. I have changed the recipe from 1 tsp. to 1 Tbsp. of cocoa powder.

Steps:
- Heat milk, sugar and cocoa powder over high heat until boiling, stirring constantly.
- Take off heat and stir in vanilla and peanut butter; stir until peanut butter has melted completely.
- Stir in wheat germ and oatmeal.
- Drop by large spoonfuls onto wax paper or eat immediately.
- *As I noted above, this recipe is VERY flexible. If you don't have wheat germ or flax seed, just use more oatmeal. The recipe above should work out just perfectly and does most of the time, but if your cookies come out crumbly, use less oatmeal next time. If they never set, use more oatmeal next time.

MOMMA'S WHEAT GERM COOKIES
Good Cookies!! You'll be giving out this recipe forever!!! Be sure to leave the cookies on the cookie sheet for at least one minute after removing them from the oven. This allows them to "flatten" and firm up, also make sure you use rolled oats, not instant! Please don't let all the ingredients scare you away from this recipe.

HEALTHY BANANA DROP COOKIES
This is a recipe I got out of my husband's collection, so I am unsure of its origin. I have made them a few times now and they are so delicious! They remind me of banana muffins somewhat and they are super simple to make! They make a great breakfast or snack.

PEANUT BUTTER WHEAT GERM COOKIES
I've adapted this from an old newspaper recipe clipping (source unknown), likely from the 1970's when wheat germ was a miracle ingredient. I've substituted brown rice flour for all-purpose flour as I prefer this texture and flavour variation, but you could just as easily revert to the original with good results. The original also called for 1 c. wheat germ, which I've halved and added 1/2 c. spelt flour, but this is a highly adaptable and forgiving recipe so feel free to experiment depending on what you have on hand. I recommend pure peanut butter (peanuts as only ingredient) rather than the soybean oil, sugar and salt-laden popular brands.

Steps:
- Beat butter and peanut butter with sugar, then beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually beat in dry ingredients. Form into balls on cookie sheet (ungreased, preferably with baking parchment) of whatever size you like and flatten to about half the ball thickness- use the typical criss-cross fork pattern if you like a traditional look. Bake at 350 degrees Farenheit for 8-10 minutes, watching carefully to check degree of browning, and remove to racks for cooling.

HARRIET'S WHEAT GERM COOKIES
Very tasty homestyle cookies. This recipe is from my college housemother. There is lots of fiber in here to offset the guilt of the sugar and fat. I use wholewheat pastry flour, but you can use the flour of your choice - it is not critical to the outcome. The chocolate chips and flax are optional. You will need a strong arm to mix the dough - I recommend a stand mixer.

- Place racks in upper and lower thirds of oven; preheat to 350°. Process 1⅓ cups whole wheat flour, wheat germ, sugar, baking powder, salt, and butter in a food processor until butter virtually disappears and you have a fine, floury meal. Add milk and pulse until a damp and crumbly dough forms.
- Turn dough out onto an unfloured surface and gently knead just to bring it into a ball; flatten into a disk. Lightly flour surface and roll out dough until just shy of ¼” thick. Lightly flour cookie cutter and punch out cookies, dusting with more flour as needed to avoid sticking. Dust any excess flour off of cookies with a dry pastry brush.
- Using a spatula, transfer cookies to 2 parchment-lined baking sheets. Gently knead scraps together, reroll, and punch out more cookies. Discard any scraps (or bake as is and crumble over ice cream!).
- Prick each cookie 3 times with a fork and bake, rotating baking sheets top to bottom and front to back halfway through, until bottoms and edges are browned, 15–18 minutes. Let cool on baking sheets (cookies will crisp up as they cool).
