Easy Vegan Cheese Sauce image

Easy vegan cheese sauce, ready in 3 minutes! A super simple and nut-free plant-based recipe which requires only a handful of ingredients. This vegan queso is perfect for pizza, nachos, Mac and Cheese, burgers, pasta bake, toast, and more savory recipes. The sauce doesn't contain cashews!

3/4 cup coconut milk (canned (*see notes ))
3 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
2 tbsp tapioca flour (OR arrowroot flour/starch (*see notes))
1/2 tsp sea salt ((or to taste))
1/2 tsp onion powder ((optional))
1/4 tsp garlic powder ((optional))
Pinch of smoked paprika ((optional))

Steps:

  • Put all ingredients into a saucepan and stir with a whisk. Once everything is combined, turn on the heat and bring the mixture to a boil while stirring constantly.
  • Let simmer on low to medium heat for about one minute until the sauce is stretchy.
  • Enjoy this vegan cheese sauce with nachos, on pizza, over pasta, and many other savory dishes! Please read the recipe notes below.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup flour
1/3 cup nutritional yeast
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 cup margarine
1/4 cup water

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients except water in a bowl. Slowly add water until the dough forms a ball. You may not need all of the water!
  • Roll out on a clean surface to about 1/3 inch thickness. Cut out shapes using the smallest cookie cutters you have. Continue to re-roll scraps until all dough is used.
  • Place crackers on baking sheets lined with waxed paper. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes, until crackers are set and golden.

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, nutritional yeast, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and turmeric. Mix well. Add the olive oil, butter, and lemon juice, mixing with a fork until the dough is fine and crumbly. Add the water a tablespoon at a time until the dough becomes cohesive.
  • Transfer the dough to a piece of parchment paper large enough to fit a large rimmed baking pan. (You can use a Silpat instead, if you have one.) Top the dough with another sheet of parchment paper and roll out the dough until thin, measuring about 11 x 13 inches. Transfer the parchment paper and rolled-out dough to a large rimmed baking sheet. Remove the top sheet of parchment paper and cut the rolled dough into 2-inch squares. If desired, remove any uneven pieces of dough from around the edges and press together into a small disk and roll it out to get more crackers that are a uniform size. (Otherwise, you’ll have a few partial crackers from around the end to nibble on!)
  • Bake for 15 to 17 minutes, or until the crackers are baked but not browned. The color should be golden. Cool completely on the baking sheet. These crackers keep well for a week in a sealed container at room temperature.
