I had a recipe book for kids when I was young. I have since lost that book but I remember this recipe well as it was one of my favorites. For kids too young to use a knife they can just use a plastic apple corer and then stuff the toppings inside the apple.

ONION BUNS
I was looking to put a spin on my Recipe #317538 and I came across this fabulous recipe. It was easy and the aroma filled the house while making the dough and while baking the buns. From KA: Why bake your own sandwich buns? Because homemade is SO much better than store-bought. These soft, golden buns feature a subtle spiral of dried onion, giving them incredible aroma and marvelous flavor. They're perfect for all kinds of sandwiches-and hamburgers, of course.

- **Water: Use the lesser amount in summer (or in a humid environment), the greater amount in winter (or in a dry climate), and somewhere in between the rest of the year, or if your house is climate controlled.
- To make the dough: Combine all of the dough ingredients, and mix and knead them-by hand, mixer, or bread machine-to make a soft, somewhat tacky dough.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl or other container large enough to allow it to at least double in bulk, cover, and let it rise for about 60 to 70 minutes, till it's just about doubled.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased work surface, and pat/roll it into a 12" x 17" rectangle.
- Sprinkle the dough with the minced onion, and press/roll it into the surface gently.
- Starting with a short (12") end, roll the dough into a log, sealing the ends and side seam.
- Cut the log into eight slices. A pair of scissors works very well here.
- Place the buns on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, flattening them to about 3" wide. Cover them, and allow them to rise till they're very puffy, about 1 hour. Towards the end of the rising time, preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Uncover the buns, brush them with the beaten egg white/water, and sprinkle with seeds, if desired.
- Bake the buns for 20 to 25 minutes, until they're golden brown and feel set when you poke them.
- Remove them from the oven, and cool on a rack. When completely cool, wrap in plastic, and store at room temperature.
CAKE DOUGHNUTS 1972 ( CANADIAN )
I remember my mom making these in my high school days. Later I got the recipe, and now make them for my family. Sometimes I add a touch of nutmeg in my buttermilk too. Adds another element of flavour.

Steps:
- Combine sugar and salt in a large bowl.
- Stir in the egg.
- Stir in the oil, buttermilk, and vanilla.
- Sift all remaining ingredients, and add a little at a time.
- Do this in four or five portions, mixing into wet after each.
- Mix and turn out on a lightly floured board.
- Keep the dough a soft soft but not sticky dough.
- Roll out 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut with cutter.
- Fry in hot fat in a deep fryer.
- Temperature of the oil should be 370 degrees.
- (Or should fry a bread cube in 60 seconds).
- Fry until golden brown, turning once during frying time.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Cool.
- Dust with icing powder or make a butter icing glaze.
GWEN'S ORIGINAL SQUASH CASSEROLE
This dish has been a staple on Thanksgiving for as long as I can remember. I don't remember my mom making squash any other way. I just know that when I tried it as a child for the first time I remember how delicious it was. A Thanksgiving without it is not a real Thanksgiving at my house. Other's have tried to duplicate it and failed. There is only one way to make it and this is it. Don't substitute or change anything, follow the directions to a "T". Enjoy!

Steps:
- Place squash, carrots and onions in medium pot. Cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and continue to cook till fork tender. Drain well in collander.
- Melt the stick of butter in bottom of casserole. Mix in the cornbread stuffing. (Reserve half of mixture to use as topping).
- Spread other half on the bottom of the casserole.
- Combine cream of chicken and sour cream with the drained squash. Add black pepper to taste.
- Add to casserole dish and then top with remaining cornbread topping.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes until it bubbles around edges and is golden brown.

THE OTHER "SHRIMP COCKTAIL"
This recipe has been my all-time favorite since I can remember my mom making it. It comes from Mexico, its origina,l has great flavor that is incomparable, and it give u great energy boost, is low in fat and delicious. Hope u guys like it.

Steps:
- First, cook shrimp or seafood, then rinse and refrigerate until nice and cool.
- Then dice all of your veggies (make sure they are nice and cold too). Mix all the veggies together in a large bowl. Add salt and pepper at that time and chile sauce. Cut 2 1/2 of the lemons and limes, add to mixture. Add once all veggies and seasonings are all mixed. Add the shimp and mix and then add the clamato juice cocktail, then cool for an hour.
- Serve in a big ice cream sundae glass or something similar
- Pour mixture into glasses and sprinkle a little bit of cilantro in it and add a lemon or lime wedge for decoration.
- Cut the rest of the lemons and limes into wedges. Put in nice plate in center and crackers as well and enjoy!
- This is delicious guys is a must try if you like seafood and are tired of the same old nasty cocktail sauce and shrimp that is bland. This is a real kicker.
