Ingredients

1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
⅛ teaspoon cayenne
1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs
2 large eggs, beaten
1 medium yellow onion, sliced into 1/2 in (1 1/4 cm)
marinara sauce, for serving

Steps:

Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
In a medium bowl, whisk together the salt, pepper, flour, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne.
Add the panko and eggs to 2 separate shallow bowls.
Coat the onion rings in the flour, then in the eggs, then in the panko.
Working in batches, add the onion rings to the air fryer in a single layer and "fry" for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
Serve with warm marinara sauce.

2 vidalia onions
2 cups flour
2 cups white cornmeal
4 cups Crisco cooking oil (or enough for your personal fryer)
2 quarts ice water, divided

Steps:

Slice onions 1/2 inch thick.
Place rings into bowl of ice water.
Take out rings one at a time and coat with flour.
Gently dip ring into 2nd bowl of ice water, and then coat with corn meal.
Drop into hot oil and fry until golden.
Drain on paper towels.

nonstick cooking spray, optional
1 large white onion, or large yellow onion
1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs, or panko bread crumbs (50 g)
½ cup grated parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
3 large eggs, beaten
1 cup all-purpose flour
dipping sauce, of your choice, optional

Steps:

Preheat the oven to 425˚F (220˚C). Grease a baking sheet with nonstick spray or line with parchment paper.
Cut the onion crosswise into ½-inch (1 cm) slices and gently push apart each layer to get individual rings. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the bread crumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Add the eggs to a separate large bowl. Add the flour to a third large bowl.
Dredge the onion rings in the flour, then the eggs, then finally in the bread crumb mixture, making sure to coat all sides.
Arrange the onion rings on the baking sheet.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown on both sides.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Here is an easy and different onion ring recipe. I've heard people talk before about ice cream being used for onion rings, but had never seen a recipe for it, so I came up with this. Cooking time depends on how many rings you fry at once, and how hot the oil is, so the 20 minutes is just a guess.

Ingredients

4 medium sized onions, sliced (about 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick slices)
1 pint vanilla ice cream, completely thawed
2 cups flour
salt, to taste
oil (for deep frying)

Steps:

Pour liquid ice cream into a medium sized mixing bowl and add onion slices. Toss to coat thoroughly. Let set for about 2 hours, tossing to coat about every 20-30 minutes.
Put flour in a medium or large mixing bowl. Drain onion rings and add to flour. Toss to coat completely.
Heat oil in large pot or deep fryer. When hot add onion rings and fry until golden brown, turning once.
When done, place on paper towel to drain, then salt to taste.

Peel onions. Slice onions into slices that are between 3/8 and 1/2-inch. Remove the small center of the onions, you can chop those into diced onions. Separate onions into rings, and place the rings into a large bowl of water.
Place three containers in a row. In the first container, place the flour, in the second container, place the melted ice cream, and in the third container place the cornmeal.
Prepare onion rings by shaking off the water, dip onion into the flour, shake off excess flour. Dip into the melted ice cream, and then dip into the cornmeal. Gently shake off excess cornmeal. Place the onion ring on a cookie sheet to dry for a few minutes before frying.
