I love Taco in a Bag! I had this recipe at the Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana. My family loves them too! The chip bag serves as a shell for the tacos.

Categories     Snack

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 16

4 (3.5-ounce) bags of Doritos (or Fritos corn chips*)
2 (15.5-ounce) cans chili ((your choice of brand)**)
2 cups cheddar cheese, (shredded)
1 head (6 cups) Iceburg lettuce (or Romained lettuce, finely shredded)
Instead of using chili, you can use ground beef or turkey cooked in taco seasoning.
1 to 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (or turkey)
1 (1.25-ounce) package Taco Seasoning Mix
Sour cream
Salsa
Guacamole
Green chile pepper (or pickled jalapeno chiles, sliced)
Black olives, (sliced)
Black beans, (pinto beans or kidney beans, rinsed and drained)
Green onions, (chopped)
Tomatoes, (chopped)
Avocado, (chopped)

Steps:

  • Oven medium heat, pour cans of chili into medium-sized sauce pan. Cook until chili is heated thoroughly.
  • Hold chip bag sideways in hand and use scissors to cut open top of bag. As the chip bag sits in your hands, squeeze the bag to crumble up the chips into bite-size pieces.
  • Pour 1 cup of prepared chili into each bag. Top chili with 1/2 cup shredded cheese and then top with 1 1/2 to 2 cups shredded lettuce.
  • Add your favorite taco toppings (see topping options).
  • Eat with a fork and enjoy!
  • Cleanup: Throw chip bag and plastic fork away in the trash when you're done.
  • Makes 4 servings.
  • Ground Beef or Turkey Option:
  • In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until it's almost done and there is still a little pinkness. Remove from heat and drain off the fat. Stir in the taco seasoning until combined.
  • Continue cooking till meat is fully browned. Remove from heat.

TACOS IN A BAG (OR TACO SALAD IN A BAG)

Tacos in a Bag (Or Taco Salad in a Bag) image

Not really a 'recipe', just a way to serve them when you have a lots of kids over, and most important NO MESS to clean up. My DS's and their cousins really had fun with this, and they could layer whatever they wanted. I'm giving just an estimated quantity and serving is for 1 person. To free up your time buy presliced vegetables from the local salad bar in your supermarket, just place them individually in the plastic produce bag and place in salad bar container to keep ingredients apart.

Time 25m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 tablespoons sliced black olives
1 tablespoon sliced green olives
1/3 cup shredded lettuce
2 tablespoons taco sauce
2 tablespoons sour cream

BEST TACO SALAD!

Best Taco Salad! image

I got this recipe from a friend more than 20 years ago and it remains a family favorite espcially on hot summer days. I cook the beef early in the morning. Sometimes even chop all of the ingredients then, too, so all I have to do is throw everything together when it is time for dinner. Teenagers especially love this. That is a bonus! Have yet to find anyone who doesn't love this super easy salad for dinner.
