SWEET AND TANGY PULLED PORK IN THE SLOW COOKER



Sweet and Tangy Pulled Pork in the Slow Cooker image

Tangy with a hint of sweet. The longer you cook it, the better it gets. I like to make this the day before. Serve on warm buns.

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, chopped
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 ¼ cups steak sauce (such as Heinz 57®)
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
¼ cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 ¼ teaspoons liquid smoke
1 (3 pound) lean boneless pork tenderloin, or to taste

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic, chili powder, and pepper until blended; cook until garlic has softened, 3 to 4 minutes. Add steak sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke. Stir and bring to a light boil.
  • Put pork tenderloin into a slow cooker and pour the sauce on top. Cook until the pork falls apart when touched with a fork, 5 to 6 hours on High or 10 to 12 hours on Low.
  • Place pork on a plate and shred it using 2 forks. Put the pork back in the sauce until ready to serve.

4 cups chopped onions
1 (18 ounce) bottle hickory smoke-flavored barbecue sauce
1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
½ (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle diet pepper-type soda (such as Diet Dr Pepper®)
¼ cup reduced-sodium Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Cut each pork tenderloin into 4 pieces and place into a slow cooker; set to High.

1 can (14-1/2 ounces) beef broth
1/3 cup plus 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce, divided
1/3 cup plus 1/4 cup Louisiana-style hot sauce, divided
1 cup ketchup
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup prepared mustard
10 kaiser rolls, split

Steps:

  • Cut roast in half; place in a 5-qt. slow cooker. In a small bowl, combine broth, 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce and 1/3 cup hot sauce; pour over roast. 3 teaspoons salt
3 teaspoons pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 bottle (18 ounces) barbecue sauce
10 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, whisk the first 6 ingredients; rub over roast. Place roast in a 5- or 6-qt. slow cooker. Cook, covered, on low until meat is tender, 8-10 hours., Remove roast; cool slightly. 1 Tablespoon salt
1 Tablespoon pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard
⅓ cup liquid smoke
4 pounds pork shoulder butt roast ((or bone in))
18 ounces BBQ Sauce (1 bottle)
12 Hamburger Buns

Steps:

  • Spray the inside of slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray (or use a slow cooker liner).
  • Combine paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, mustard and liquid smoke in a small bowl.
  • Rub all over the roast, covering all sides. (Optional: poke your roast with a large fork a couple of times to let the flavors really soak in).
  • Place lid on slow cooker and bake on low for 8-10 hours (or high 5-6 hours).
