As a change from mayonnaise-laden slaw, I created this refreshing alternative. It uses many of the garden vegetables I grow, so it's also economical. I serve it at our family reunion each Fourth of July, and it's always a big hit at get-togethers. -Sharon Payne, Mayfield, Kentucky

Ingredients

3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup white vinegar
1/3 cup canola oil
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
1 package (14 ounces) coleslaw mix
2 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 small green pepper, chopped
1 small sweet red pepper, chopped
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish

Steps:

In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, vinegar, oil, water, salt, pepper and, if desired, pepper flakes. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Cook 2 minutes longer or until sugar is dissolved. Cool to room temperature, stirring several times., In a large salad bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, tomatoes, onion, peppers and pickle relish. Add the dressing and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Serve with a slotted spoon.

Hot Dogs with Summertime Slaw image

Ingredients

1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup prepared mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 cups sliced red cabbage
2 cups sliced green cabbage
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Grilled hot dogs of your choice, on a bun

Steps:

In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, mayonnaise, sugar, red wine vinegar, and apple cider vinegar. Stir in the cabbage and toss to coat. Season the cabbage with salt, and pepper, to taste.
Serve the slaw on top of a grilled hot dog, or as a side dish for hot dogs, burgers, or grilled chicken.

Ingredients

1 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsps sugar
2 tbsps vinegar
1 tsp McCormick® Celery Seed
1 tsp McCormick® Mustard, Ground
1 tsp Lawry's® Seasoned Salt
1 package (16 ounces) shredded coleslaw mix

Steps:

Mix mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, celery seed, ground mustard and seasoned salt in large bowl. Add coleslaw mix; toss to coat well. Cover.
Refrigerate 2 hours or until ready to serve. Stir before serving.

Slice the red cabbage as thinly as you can, preferably using a mandolin, and peel and coarsely grate the carrots.
Drizzle over the olive oil, lime juice and vinegar, sprinkle over the salt and toss everything together.
