Received this recipe from my MIL for pulled pork. It is so good. The lemon flavour really comes through the day after it is made...Loved it with pulled pork, think it would be good on any pork or chicken.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon lemon zest, grated
6 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke
2 teaspoons dry mustard
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Combine the ketchup, brown sugar, lemon zest and juice, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, mustard, onion powder and pepper in a non-reactive saucepan and whisk to mix.
  • Gradually bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat and let simmer until thick and flavourful, 8-10 minutes. Taste for seasoning, adding more lemon juice if necessary. Transfer the sauce to a bowl or clean jars and let cool to room temperature. Refrigerate the sauce, covered, until serving time; let it return to room temperature before using. The sauce can be refrigerated, covered, for several weeks. Makes about 3 cups.

This recipe is supposedly the same sauce from "The Shack" in Little Rock, Arkansas. It's great on pork - very thin, and very vinegary, and very peppery - enjoy!

1 cup ketchup
1 cup cider vinegar
1 cup water
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
1 1/2 tablespoons salt
1 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons black pepper
2 teaspoons onion juice

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients, and cook for about 20 minutes on med-low (till a little bit thick) - keeps for a year in the fridge!

This is the original recipe. You have to have tabasco to have the heat. This sauce is delish. I dont use the whole bottle of tabasco and you can adjust the sugar and black pepper to your taste.

72 ounces ketchup (3-24 oz)
72 ounces hot water (use the ketchup bottles)
4 cups vinegar
4 ounces chili powder
4 ounces garlic salt
4 ounces sugar
4 ounces black pepper
4 ounces Tabasco sauce
8 ounces mustard

Steps:

  • Put the wet stuff in big pot. start it to boil. put dry stuff together and add it to the dry stuff when it begins to boil. turn down to a simmer and simmer 30 minutes. stir often to make sure nothing sticks. This recipe make a lot of sauce.
