SUBWAY BREAD COPYCAT RECIPE

Subway Bread Copycat Recipe image

Ever fancied a Subway soft Italian roll at home? What makes Subway's bread rolls the perfect rolls for a sandwich are that they are always soft and chewy with a lightly crisp crust. Top tip! If you fancied a cheesy roll instead of the plain Italian style Subway bread roll, sprinkle grated cheddar cheese, with a touch of garlic salt over the dough before you put the rolls in to bake.

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cups of all-purpose flour
1½ tblespn of yeast
1 cup of luke warm water
4 tblspn of olive oil
1½ tspn of salt
1 tblspn of sugar

Steps:

  • Combine the yeast, warm water, olive oil, with sugar and salt then stir until the yeast mixture is nicely combined. Let the mixture stand for around 10 minutes. Then add 1 cup of flour and mix with a dough hook for approximately 5 minutes. Add the flour continuously and slowly whilst mixing until the dough is soft. Let the dough mix for a further 7-8 minutes until it is lightly sticking to the bowl. Next, empty the dough onto a floured worktop and knead the mixture until soft and smooth. Once soft, place the dough in a bowl, cover the bowl with cling film and leave it to rise for approximately half an hour. Once the dough has risen, divide it into 4 balls, and roll each ball into a long loaf. Place each loaf onto a baking tray lined with a baking sheet, leaving at least a couple of inches gap between the loafs. Once again cover the loafs with cling film or plastic film and leave to rise. Wait until the loaves have doubled in size, approx an hour. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, 175 degrees Celsius or gas mark 4. Bake the loaves for 23-25 minutes, until very light brown. Remove the loaves from the oven and rub a small amount of butter on the top, and leave to cool. if(typeof ez_ad_units != 'undefined'){ez_ad_units.push([[250,250],'fastfood_recipes_com-medrectangle-4','ezslot_1',122,'0','0'])};if(typeof __ez_fad_position != 'undefined'){__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-fastfood_recipes_com-medrectangle-4-0')};

Time 2h55m

Yield 8 12 inch loaves, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups warm water
1/3 cup soybean oil
6 -7 cups all-purpose flour, divided
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon vital wheat gluten

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup warm water. Let stand for about nine to ten minutes.
  • Combine yeast mixture with oil, salt, and two cups of flour. Stir well.
  • Gradually stir in 4 cups of flour and remaining water.
  • Knead for 10 minutes, adding additional flour as needed.
  • Place dough in a lightly-greased bowl.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for about one hour.
  • Punch dough down and divide into eight pieces.
  • Roll each half into loaf-shapes, about twelve inches long.
  • Place loaves onto two large baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  • Cover the eight loaves and allow to rise for about an hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Cook for 25 minutes, or until the top of the loaves are golden brown.
  • Let the bread cool until room temperature.
  • For a delicious oat take on the Subway white bread, sprinkle the tops of the loaves with quick-cooking oats after brushing on the egg white mixture.
  • Adapt this recipe to prepare Subway's Honey & Oats bread by adding 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats to the bread dough before rising.
  • If you prefer a hands-off approach, you can mix all of the ingredients in a bread machine and cook on a light setting according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Add a bit more flavor by sprinkling a mixture of shredded cheddar cheese, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning over the dough before baking.
  • Recreate Subway's Parmesan Oregano bread by mixing together Parmesan cheese, oregano, and garlic salt and sprinkling it over the unbaked dough.
  • You can also make two loaves of bread from this recipe instead of eight individual sub rolls.

HOW TO MAKE SUBWAY BREAD AT HOME

How to Make Subway Bread at Home image

This Subway Bread Recipe is so easy to make and tastes even better than the popular restaurant! Soft and chewy, the perfect start to your favorite sandwich!

Provided by Erica Walker

Categories     Bread

Time 2h45m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
2 tablespoons sugar
3 cups flour
2 tablespoons Vital Wheat Gluten (see above notes)
1 1/4 cups warm water
3 tablespoons butter (cold)
1 tablespoon salt

Steps:

  • In a stand mixer mixing bowl, combine yeast, 1/2 c. warm water, and sugar. Stir until well combined and let stand for about 10 minutes until nice and foamy.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, combine flour and vital wheat gluten. Add 1 c. warm water to the yeast mixture (in the stand mixer bowl) and add flour/wheat gluten mixture until combined.
  • Attach the bowl to the stand mixer and with the bread hook attachment, mix dough for about 3-4 minutes, adding a little flour if necessary- keeping it a little sticky.
  • You want the dough to be sticky enough that it sticks to the bottom of the bowl a little bit, but not the sides.
  • After 3-4 minutes, cut up 3 Tbsp. of cold butter into little cubes and add to the mixing bowl and add 1 Tbsp. salt. Mix an additional 5-6 minutes until butter is mixed in to the dough, pull the bread down off the hook if needed throughout the mixing process. Again, you want the dough to be slightly sticky and stretchy.
  • Place dough in a large greased bowl and roll around a little to get it greased all around. Cover and allow to rise in a warm place for about an hour.
  • Punch dough down and divide into 3 equal pieces (flour your hands if the dough is too sticky for easier handling). Roll out each piece into a 12" long loaf.. The dough should be the same thickness all the way across. Place on a non-stick baking sheet (I used a silicon baking mat) or a bread form pan. Cover and allow to rise 40-60 minutes, until dough doubles in size.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Bake in oven for 12-25 minutes (check at 12 minutes) until bread is golden brown. Remove from oven and lightly run a little cold butter over the top(this will soften it up nicely).
  • Allow loaves to cool completely, then serve with all your favorite sub sandwich toppings!

SUBWAY BREAD COPYCAT RECIPE

Subway Bread Copycat Recipe image

Subway is a famous American restaurant chain that sells the best sandwiches, salads, and beverages around the globe. Their sandwiches are so good that you instantly become a fan. The good thing is you can make sandwiches like theirs at home too. But first!!! Let's talk about their tasty Subway bread loaf because the perfect sandwich starts with perfect bread! Right? So, I'm here with an amazing Subway bread copycat recipe that will surely give you the perfect bread just like the subway sandwich bread. This is the best recipe to make delicious subway bread at home. It contains all the natural ingredients. It's the easiest and the simplest recipe and would make your bread better than the subways bread. The bread you make with this recipe is soft, light, spongy, and has a beautiful brown crispy crust. Subway Bread is Easy and Fun to make It's a fun recipe and you can even make it with your kids to have a fun and exciting baking experience. You can make this bread for casual as well as special events. It goes well for picnics, parties, and get-togethers. You can make it any time you want to have sandwiches. Just fill-up the bread with your favorite fillings like you can add leftover turkey, pepper jack, tomatoes, and honey mustard punch and take it to another level of taste and deliciousness. Some Important Tips for Subway Bread Recipe: If it's your first baking experience and you're not sure about how much flour you should add, then simply add enough flour to keep the dough soft and sticky. Because if you add too much flour, your dough will get hard and your bread will get hard too. Remember! You must use warm water for this recipe. Warm water helps the dough rise well. The temperature of the water should be around 110° If you don't have a stand mixer, no worries. You can simply mix all the ingredients in a bowl. The goal is to knead the dough well for 8 minutes to make the dough smooth. You can mix half of the wheat flour and half of the all-purpose flour to make the whole wheat subway buns out of this same recipe. It is recommended to add vital wheat gluten into the recipe if you want to make it soft and chewy just like the real subway bread. You can easily buy it at a nearby grocery store. It's a bit expensive but gives you soft and chewy bread that tastes and feels like the real subway bread. You can add 1 tbsp. of vital wheat gluten per 2 - 3 cups of flour. Additional Tips for Subway Bread You can use special sub molds available in the market to make your dough look exactly like the sandwich bread from the subway. These molds help the dough rise in exactly the same shape as the subway bread. But if you don't have those pans, simply skip them and shape the dough with your own hands. You can use the same recipe to make whole wheat bread. Just add whole wheat bread instead of all-purpose flour. Before putting your bread into the oven, top it up with some sesame seeds or shredded Parmesan cheese. Subway Bread Copycat Recipe: Ok, now that you know everything you need to know, let's jump into this delicious Subway bread copycat recipe. Ingredients 2 ½ - 2 ¾ cups of All-Purpose Flour 1 tbsp. of Yeast (Dry Active) 1 tbsp. of Sugar 1 ½ tsp. of Salt 4 tbsp. of Olive Oil 1 cup of Warm Water Instructions Take a large mixing bowl and add warm water, sugar, salt, yeast, and olive oil into it. Mix them all. Let the mixture rest for 5 minutes until the mixture gets bubbly and frothy. Add 1 cup of all-purpose flour and mix it with the stand mixer for about 4 - 5 minutes. Now keep on adding flour, ¼ cups of flour at a time. Mix it well until a soft and a bit sticky dough is formed. Remember, the dough must be sticky. It should be sticking to the bottom of the bowl. The total mixing time of the dough must be around 8 minutes. When the dough gets smooth, well-combined, and sticky, take it out on a flour-sprinkled worktop and knead it well until it gets more smooth and even. Fold the dough into a round shape and put it back into the mixing bowl. Now cover the bowl with a cloth or cling film and let it rise for about half an hour. When the dough gets risen, take it out on a clean surface and divide it into four equal parts Shape each dough ball into a long loaf of about 9 - 10 inches in size. Now line the baking tray with a baking sheet or parchment paper and place these dough loaves into the baking tray. There should be at least 2 inches distance between the loaves. Cover the baking tray with cling film again and let the dough loaves rise again for about one hour until they get double in size. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Remove the cling film from the baking tray and place it into the oven. Bake the loaves for 25 minutes until they get a beautiful brown texture. When the loaves get the brown texture, take them out of the oven. Apply butter to the top of the loaves to make them a bit soft and give them a tasty buttery flavor. Let the loaves rest for at least 30 minutes to let them cool. When cooled, slice them from the center. Fill them up with your favorite fillings and enjoy the remarkably tasty sandwiches at home

CLOSEST THING TO SUBWAY'S ITALIAN HERBS & CHEESE BREAD

Closest Thing to Subway's Italian Herbs & Cheese Bread image

At least this is the closest one you'll be able to find. Most likely. It's not going to look like they're bread, but I heard if you freeze it, let it sit out for a bit, roll it and then put it in regular bread pans in the oven and cook it to about 350 it should turn out closer to it...... But I'm too scared to try that, if you try it and you like it let me know! This recipe came from MC-Recipe Digest V1 #583 by Barbara Zack on Apr 21, 1997.
