MOM'S SPICY HOT DOG SAUCE (CROCK POT)

Mom's Spicy Hot Dog Sauce (Crock Pot) image

My mother-in-law gave me this recipe. We absolutely love it! I cook it for several hours in the crock pot, and I usually double or even triple it, because my family loves having the leftovers!

Provided by Possumstew

Categories     Sauces

Time 8h20m

Yield 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 lbs ground beef, browned
1 1/2 cups onions, chopped
3 cups water
1 quart tomato juice
1 1/2 cups ketchup
15 ounces tomato sauce
1/8 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 tablespoon black pepper
4 tablespoons vinegar
1/2 tablespoon Tabasco sauce
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in your crock pot.
  • Allow to cook at least 8 hours on low (in the older Crockpots -- the newer ones sometimes seem to cook too high). I usually cook mine overnight, then even allow it to cook part of the day before turning it to warm.
  • ***It can also be cooked on the stove, if you need it to get done sooner. In this case, you may want to leave the water out.
  • Enjoy on hot dogs (or "saucedogs" for my daughter who doesn't like hotdogs, and only eats sauce on a bun LOL) or use as a sloppy joe filling!
  • I'm not sure about the serving amount below.

SPICY, SAUCY HOT DOGS!

Spicy, Saucy Hot Dogs! image

I make these all the time...whenever I feel like it! Right now I'm on Weight Watchers and a DOUBLE hot dog with this sauce is a mere 9 points! (I looked it up, don't worry.) I use fat-free turkey links, but they're from Ballpark, so they taste like the real deal, and low-fat potato rolls. The sauce is nothing more than...well, you'll find out! Whenever you want to jazz up a hot dog, make these. They're great cold, too.

Time 15m

Yield 4 hot dog meals, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 hot dogs
4 hot dog buns
2 tablespoons dried chipotle powder
1 tablespoon dried chipotle powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
margarine

Steps:

  • Take your buns and spread a little margarine on them. Toast them if you'd like.
  • Spread the spices on them, mixing to make sure they have a nice, red coloring!
  • Take your hot dogs and make sure they're thawed out. Cut a small cross in the ends of each hot dog and small slices in the middle, but DON'T CUT THROUGH! This will make your hot dogs plump up even more and curl up!
  • Grill your hot dogs outside or in -- I have a George Foreman Grill that I love to use when it's rainy. Make sure they've got lots of yummy grill marks!
  • Set your hot dogs in the buns when they're finished, two in each bun, and enjoy!

  • Air Fryer Hot Dogs. I think it’s only proper to start off this list with a recipe for cooking a basic hot dog. After all, none of these gourmet dishes will turn out any good without a perfectly cooked wiener!
  • Cheesy Mexican Gourmet Hot Dogs. Skip tacos this Tuesday and make these Mexican hot dogs instead. I’m telling you, you won’t regret it. Topped with a salty and creamy cheese sauce, red onions, Serrano peppers, tomatoes, and cilantro, these babies burst with an explosion of Mexican flavors.
  • Cheesy Hot Dog Taquitos. We’ll ditch the buns and ketchup for this next gourmet hot dog. Instead, we’ll stuff the sausage in a corn tortilla and top it with shredded cheese.
  • Air Fryer Corn Dogs. While I absolutely love hot dogs in buns, my heart calls out for corn dogs. These sweet and salty treats are both my weakness and source of strength.
  • Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs – 2 WAYS! There’s something so exciting about wrapping things in bacon, don’t you agree? This recipe has instructions for cooking the dogs in the oven and the gas grill, so the choice is yours.
  • Banh Mi Hot Dogs. These banh mi hot dogs are an absolute must-try if you consider yourself adventurous. In case you’re not familiar, a banh mi is a Vietnamese sandwich made of a crusty bun filled with Asian ham, mayo, pickled vegetables, cilantro, chilies, and a sweet-spicy sauce.
  • Chili Dog. Toasted buns, grilled (or Air-Fried) hot dogs, chili, and cheese – together, these simple things create scrumptious comfort food that always hits the spot.
  • Nacho Hot Dogs. These hot dogs are overloaded with melty cheese, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and a crunchy surprise! If you enjoy dishes with a lot of textural contrasts, I’m pretty sure you’ll fall in love with these hot dogs.
  • Jalapeño Pretzel Dogs. This soft pretzel and hot dog hybrid is, without a doubt, my favorite. I can’t get enough of the contrast between the crusty-chewy-tender pretzels and snappy, juicy hot dogs.
  • French Onion Hot Dogs. These hot dogs are topped with caramelized onions, melted Gruyere cheese, and a mayo-mustard sauce… and I’m in love. I seriously had no idea French onion soup could taste so epic in hot dog form.
