Found this in a magazine and made a few changes to better suit my family. It's great for left over steak or for a quick week night meal. The original recipe called for coating the steak strips with a tablespoon of cornstarch. I skip this because I don't like the way it affects the texture of the meat but it does make for a nice thickened sauce so you may want to try it. You could also use cornstarch in the actual sauce to thicken it. Also, feel free to add onions or mushrooms or any other veggies you prefer.

2 cups cooked bulgur or 2 cups brown rice
1/4 cup orange juice
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon fresh minced ginger
1 lb round steak, cut into strips
12 ounces broccoli florets
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Combine orange juice, vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar and ginger and set aside.
  • Toss beef strips with cornstarch and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet, combine broccoli with water.Bring to a boil and partially cover skillet with lid, steaming broccoli until crisp-tender, about 4-6 minutes. Transfer to plate.
  • Wipe skillet out with papertowel and then heat 1 T of oil over high heat.
  • When pan is very hot, add half of the beef.
  • Cook until browned, 2-4 minutes. Remove with slotted spoon to plate with broccoli and cook other half of beef.
  • When second batch of beef is done, return the first batch and the broccoli back to skillet.
  • Add orange juice mixture and bell pepper.
  • Continue cooking over high heat until sauce thickens, about 2-4 minutes.
  • Serve over rice.

1 cup long-grain white rice
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (from 1 orange)
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon light-brown sugar
1 pound top or bottom round steak, cut into strips, 2 inches long and 1/4 inch thick
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 bunch (1 pound) broccoli, florets broken into small pieces (reserve stalks for another use)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 red bell pepper, (ribs and seeds removed), cut into strips, 2 inches long and 1/4 inch wide

Steps:

  • Cook rice according to package instructions; set aside. Meanwhile, in a small bowl or liquid-measuring cup, combine orange juice, vinegar, soy sauce, and sugar; set aside. In a medium bowl, toss beef with cornstarch; season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet, combine broccoli with 1 cup water; season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil over medium-high; cook, partially covered, until broccoli is bright green and crisp-tender, 4 to 6 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Discard any water in skillet; wipe with paper towel.
  • In same skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over high. When pan is very hot, add half the beef; cook until browned, 2 to 4 minutes. Using slotted spoon, transfer beef to plate with broccoli. Repeat with remaining oil and remaining beef, but leave beef in skillet.
  • Return reserved beef and broccoli to skillet; add orange-juice mixture and bell pepper. Continue cooking over high heat until sauce thickens, 2 to 4 minutes. Serve over rice.

350 g flank or skirt steak, cut into strips against the grain (12oz)
2 tbsp fresh orange juice
1 tsp Shaoxing rice wine
1 tsp light soy sauce
1 tsp cornstarch
2 tbsp fresh orange juice
1 tsp light soy sauce
1 tsp dark soy sauce
1 tsp cornstarch
½ tsp sesame oil
1 pinch salt
1 pinch ground Sichuan pepper
2 tbsp cooking oil
Zest of ½ orange, julienned
4 fresh chillies, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp minced ginger

Steps:

  • Place beef strips in a bowl. Add all the ingredients for the marinade. Mix well until all the liquid is absorbed by the beef. Leave to combine for 10 minutes.
  • Mix all the ingredients for the sauce. Set aside.
  • Heat up a wok (or a deep frying pan) over a high heat then pour in 1½ tablespoons of oil. Sear the beef until it becomes pale. Dish out and set aside.
  • Discard any liquid in the wok. Pour in the remaining ½ tablespoon of oil. Add orange zest, fresh chilli, ginger and garlic. Cook until fragrant then stir in the beef.
  • Fry for 1 minute or so. Pour in the sauce (stir well beforehand). Dish out when beef is evenly coated with the thickened sauce. Serve immediately.

1/2 lb flank steak (cut into strips against the grain)
1 orange juice of 1/2 orange
1 tbspn rice wine or mirin
1 tspn soy sauce
1 tspn corn or potato starch
juice of 1/2 of the orange
2 tbspn soy sauce
1 tspn corn or potato starch
1 tspn toasted sesame seed oil
1/2 tspn Asian chili sauce
1 pinch kosher salt
1 tbspn freshly ground black pepper
1 tbspn toasted sesame seed oil
1 tbspn vegetable oil
zest of one orange
1 tbspn white sugar
2-3 tbspn water
1/2 red bell pepper (cut into thin strips)
1/2 green bell pepper (cut into thin strips)
1 tspn grated ginger
1 clove garlic (grated)

Steps:

  • Gather all ingredients before starting recipe.
  • Peel oranges, reserving the rind, trim white pith and slice into thin strips and squeeze juice into a small bowl.
  • Combine orange rind with a tablespoon of white sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer for about 10 minutes. Drain water from orange rind and reserve.
  • Mix 2 tablespoons of orange juice, 1 teaspoon each of rice wine or mirin, soy sauce and corn starch and stir until the corn starch is completely dissolved. Pour marinade over sliced beef, toss to combine and set aside for 10-15 minutes before cooking.
  • Combine remaining orange juice, 2 teaspoons of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of each of sesame oil, corn starch, 1 tablespoon of fresh ground black pepper and the Asian chili sauce. Stir to combine, set aside until ready to use.
  • Heat a tablespoon of sesame oil in a skillet or a wok until the oil is hot, about 1 minute on medium high heat.
  • Add sliced, marinated beef strips and fry for 2-3 minutes, or until the meat looses its red color, remove to a bowl.
  • Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil and heat for another minute then add grated ginger and garlic. Stir to combine for 1 minute, then add sliced peppers and orange zest. Cook for 1-2 minutes,
  • Add reserved beef slices and the reserved sauce and stir fry for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens
  • Serve over plain white rice.

2 small onions
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1/2 can orange juice concentrate
2 cubes beef bouillon
1/2 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Cut the beef into thin strips and slice the onion. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over a high flame. Season the beef with salt and pepper. Saute the beef until it just begins to brown. Add the orange juice, bouillon cubes and pepper flakes. Simmer until the beef is just done. If the sauce is thin, strain through a colander, reserving the beef. Return the sauce to a saucepan over a high heat. Reduce until the sauce reaches a desirable consistency or thicken with a little cornstarch.

Salt and pepper
1/2 cup cornstarch
Vegetable oil, for frying
1 package thin rice noodles
Frisee lettuce, to serve
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 cup orange marmalade
1 cup low-sodium beef broth
1 teaspoon low-sodium soy sauce
10 small dried Thai chiles
2 teaspoons cornstarch

Steps:

  • Season flank steak strips with salt and pepper, then toss with cornstarch. Shake off excess.
  • Fill a large frying pan with enough oil to cover the bottom by 1/4 to 1/2-inch. Heat the oil to 365 degrees F. First add noodles to oil and let cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Take out noodles and then, working in batches, fry the steak. Do not crowd pan. Drain on paper towels. Set aside.
  • For the sauce: Heat the oil in a medium frying pan over medium heat and cook the garlic until fragrant; do not let the garlic brown. Add orange marmalade, 1/2 cup beef broth, soy sauce, and chiles. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes. In a small bowl, stir cornstarch into remaining 1/2 cup beef broth. Stir cornstarch mixture into simmering sauce. Return to a simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until sauce thickens.
  • Make a bed of the frisee lettuce on a platter. Put the crispy noodles on top and then the beef. Pour sauce over beef and serve.

1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain into strips
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
3 to 4 tablespoons peanut oil
1 1-inch piece fresh ginger, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, smashed
5 to 7 dried red chiles, halved

8 heads baby bok choy, halved

Steps:

  • Whisk the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons rice wine in a medium bowl; add the beef, season with salt and pepper and toss to coat. Set aside for 15 minutes.
  • Mix the remaining 1 tablespoon rice wine, the oyster sauce and sesame oil in a large bowl; set the bowl near the stove.
  • Heat a wok or large nonstick skillet over high heat until very hot, about 1 minute. Add 3 tablespoons peanut oil, then the ginger, garlic and chiles; stir-fry until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the beef and cook, stirring or shaking the skillet occasionally, 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer the beef with a slotted spoon to the sauce mixture and toss.

⅓ cup white sugar
⅓ cup rice wine vinegar
2 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate
1 teaspoon salt

1 pound skirt steak, thinly sliced into 1/4-inch pieces
1/2 cup cornstarch
3/4 cup sweet chili sauce
1/2 cup fresh orange juice

Steps:

  • For the steak: Pour about 2 inches of oil in a large heavy-bottomed saucepan and heat to 350 degrees F over medium heat.

2 medium oranges
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon soy sauce

Steps:

  • Slice steaks very thin. Zest one orange; juice both oranges.
  • Mix orange juice, orange zest, honey, soy sauce, ginger, Worcestershire, black pepper, red pepper flakes, cinnamon, and cloves for marinade together in a large glass or ceramic bowl. Add steak slices, cover with plastic wrap, and marinate in the refrigerator for 4 hours.
  • Remove steak from the marinade and shake off excess. Reserve 1/2 cup of marinade; set aside.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons canola oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add 1/3 of the steak slices and cook until browned, 3 to 5 minutes, being careful as this will cook quickly. A light and speedy Asian-inspired supper of lean rump steak with broccoli, peppers, chillies and a citrus soy sauce

200g purple sprouting or Tenderstem broccoli
4 tsp groundnut oil
400g rump steak , trimmed of any excess fat and cut into thin strips
2 tsp cornflour
2 red peppers , deseeded and sliced
thumb-sized piece ginger , peeled and cut into matchsticks
4 garlic cloves , finely chopped
1 red chilli , thinly sliced (deseeded if you don't like it too hot)
4 spring onions , halved and sliced lengthways
2 oranges , 1 juiced and 1 cut into segments
1 ½ tbsp clear honey
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
steamed rice or noodles , to serve

Steps:

  • Steam or boil the broccoli for 3-4 mins until tender. Drain and run under cold water.
  • Heat 2 tsp of the oil in a non-stick wok or large frying pan and toss the beef strips in cornflour. When the oil is hot, fry the beef for 1-2 mins to brown, then put to one side.
  • Heat the remaining oil in the pan, then toss in the peppers and fry for 2 mins. Add the ginger, garlic, chilli and 3 spring onions, and cook for 1 min more, taking care not to burn the garlic. Add the orange juice, honey, rice vinegar and soy, and bubble down briefly before stirring in the broccoli, beef and orange segments. Heat through, then sprinkle with the remaining chopped spring onion. Serve with rice or noodles.

Easy, tasty stir-fry recipe. Delicious and fresh taste!!! Passed down from my father. Recipe may seem long, but you can whip it up in no time. Also, feel free to use any vegetables that you like, or add bamboo shoots or water chestnuts at the end of the recipe!

2 cups uncooked long grain white rice
1 quart water
1 tablespoon light sesame oil
4 cloves garlic, crushed
5 tablespoons butter
2 pounds flank steak, cut into thin strips
salt to taste
4 teaspoons red pepper flakes
3 ½ tablespoons teriyaki sauce
12 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 large sweet onion, sliced
½ head cabbage, sliced into strips
1 green bell pepper, cut into strips
1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
1 yellow bell pepper, cut into strips
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon brown sugar
½ cup beef broth
2 tablespoons orange jam
1 (5 ounce) can chow mein noodles
mustard powder to taste

Steps:

  • In a pot, bring the rice and water to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 20 minutes.
  • Heat the sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat, and cook 2 cloves garlic for 2 minutes, until tender. Melt the butter in the skillet. Season the beef with salt and 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes. Cook and stir the beef in the skillet 10 minutes, until evenly brown. Reserving pan drippings, transfer the cooked beef to a bowl, and coat with 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce.
  • Melt the remaining butter in a separate skillet over medium heat, and cook the remaining garlic 2 minutes, until tender. Remove garlic, and set aside. Stir the mushrooms and onions into the skillet, and cook until onions are tender. Mix in the cabbage, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and yellow bell pepper. Cook 3 minutes, until tender but still crisp. Remove skillet from heat, and mix in remaining 1/2 tablespoon teriyaki sauce and 1/2 the reserved pan drippings.
  • Heat the remaining pan drippings in the skillet over medium heat. Mix in the remaining red pepper flakes, teriyaki sauce from the beef bowl, the reserved garlic, cornstarch, brown sugar, beef broth, and orange jam. Cook 5 minutes, until thickened. Remove garlic, and stir in the beef to coat.
  • Serve the beef and vegetables, along with some of the skillet juices, over the cooked rice. Top with chow mein noodles, and sprinkle with mustard powder.
