Yield 16

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ white cake mix
Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
2 candy canes, unwrapped
2 flat-bottom ice-cream cones
Vanilla-flavored candy coating (almond bark), melted
1 container Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy vanilla frosting
1 bag (7 oz) coconut (about 2 2/3 cups)
5 large black gumdrops
1 large orange gumdrop
7 small black gumdrops
1 roll Betty Crocker™ Fruit by the Foot™ chewy fruit snack (any red flavor)
2 Oreo chocolate creme sandwich cookies
Black shoestring licorice

COCONUT SNOWMEN

Coconut Snowmen image

Our snowman is made of vanilla ice cream rolled in coconut. His eyes, mouth, and buttons are licorice candies, his carrot nose marzipan, and his hat a toasted marshmallow atop a chocolate cookie. To make these snowmen, you will need three ice-cream scoops in varied sizes. Shoestring licorice cut into small pieces can also be used for the buttons, eyes, and mouth.

Yield Makes 4

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 1/2 pints best-quality vanilla ice cream
Two 7-ounce packages coconut
Orange food coloring
1 tablespoon marzipan (1/4 ounce)
40 Sen Sen licorice candies
4 marshmallows
4 chocolate wafers
Sifted confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Line a baking pan that fits in your freezer with parchment paper. Scoop the vanilla ice cream, rounding scoops as much as possible, until you have 4 of each size, and place on the prepared baking pan. Place the pan in the freezer to harden for 15 minutes.
  • Remove the ice cream from the freezer, and roll in coconut. Return to pan, then return the pan to the freezer. Add orange food coloring to marzipan until carrot color is attained. Shape marzipan into small carrot shapes, using a paring knife to make ridges. Remove 1 small scoop of ice cream at a time from the freezer, and make faces using Sen Sen for eyes and mouth and marzipan carrots for the nose. Return to freezer until ready to serve.
  • Remove middle-size scoops from the freezer one at a time; place Sen Sen in a row down the front to create buttons. Remove remaining scoops from freezer, and stack to create snowmen, pressing slightly to adhere. Return snowmen to freezer.
  • Make the top hats by roasting marshmallows on skewers over a gas burner. Alternatively, place marshmallows on a baking sheet under the broiler, and cook until browned, rotating every few seconds. Place the toasted marshmallow on the chocolate wafer, and dust with sifted confectioners' sugar. Place the hat on the snowmen just before serving.

Categories     Afternoon tea, Treat

Time 45m

Yield Makes 20

Number Of Ingredients 5

500g white bread mix (we used Wright's)
100g caster sugar
1 egg
350g icing sugar
sprinkles (plus food colouring, if you like)

Steps:

  • Pulse together the bread mix and sugar in a food processor or table-top mixer. While the motor is running, add the egg and about 250-300ml lukewarm water, until a soft dough is formed. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth, about 5-10 mins. Leave in an oiled bowl, covered with oiled cling film, in a warm place until doubled in size - about 1 hr.
  • Knock back dough by squashing with your fist, and divide into 20 even-sized pieces - keep covered with a clean tea towel so they don't dry out. Shape each into a sausage and place on an oiled baking tray. Cover with oiled cling film and rise until doubled in size again.
  • Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Remove film and cook buns on top shelf for 8-10 mins, until golden. Cool on a wire rack. To decorate, mix icing sugar with a little water until stiff but spreadable - add food colouring, if you like. Dip in the top of each bun and scatter with sprinkles.

From bhg.com
Estimated Reading Time 5 mins
  • Frozen Snowman Banana Pops. We wouldn't recommend snacking on these frozen banana pops right after building a real snowman, but once you're warm and toasty inside, they make a great winter treat.
  • Skillet Snowman Cheese Dip. This snowman may have melted into a puddle of white cheese, but it's still cute and delish. Once you've mixed the dip together, use black olives and a baby carrot to make a face on this snowman-themed food.
  • Traditional Snowmen Sugar Cookies. The simplicity of these snowman cookies makes them a classic. Use snowman cookie cutters to create an army of them and frost with royal icing.
  • Chocolaty Melting Snowmen. Thanks to marshmallows and vanilla candy coating, these snowmen are melting all over rich chocolate cookies. To make the puddle of melted snow look more like a former snowman, use peanut butter cups to make a hat and a couple sprinkles for a snowman face.
  • Marshmallow Snowmen. You won't need a winter jacket to build a line of these snowmen. Instead, stack marshmallows into snowmen and use melted chocolate, pretzel sticks, and orange candies to create faces, arms, and buttons.
