APPLE BUTTER BBQ RIBS

Apple Butter BBQ Ribs image

This recipe is much easier than it sounds. It takes a while to prepare, but it's well worth the wait. I usually cook the ribs the day before and grill them for a quick dinner the next night.

Provided by JJman1386

Categories     Pork Spare Ribs

Time 2h11m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 pounds pork spareribs
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons lemon juice
⅔ cup apple butter
14 fluid ounces barbecue sauce (such as Jack Daniel's® Original No. 7), divided

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Cut spareribs into 6 portions. Coat with garlic, then sprinkle with onion powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Drizzle lemon juice over top. Wrap each portion in a double thickness of foil.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Remove from the oven. Unwrap ribs and drain drippings; transfer ribs to a baking dish. Liberally apply apple butter and approximately 10 ounces barbecue sauce. Cover and marinate at room temperature for 1 hour, or refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat and brush the grate with oil.
  • Place ribs on grill, and cook, basting with the remaining 4 ounces barbecue sauce, until meat pulls away easily from the bone, 20 to 25 minutes.

APPLE BUTTER COUNTRY RIBS

Apple Butter Country Ribs image

I prefer baby back ribs, but the grocery stores in my area put these country style ribs on sale quite often, so I am always looking for ways to make use of them. Plus, I love to grill....this is a perfect match.

Provided by breezermom

Categories     Pork

Time 2h5m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

4 lbs country-style pork ribs
salt
pepper
1 (14 ounce) jar apple butter
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup white vinegar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 dash red pepper (cayenne)
1 dash ground cumin

Steps:

  • Place ribs in a large Dutch oven; add water to cover. Bring to a boil; cover and reduce heat. Simmer for 45 minutes or until tender. Drain well; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  • Combine apple butter and remaining ingredients in a saucepan; stir well. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. (After the sauce has been simmering for about 10 minutes, get your fire ready on the grill!).
  • Coat the ribs generously with apple butter sauce. Grill the ribs over low coals (275 to 300 degrees -- make sure the fire isn't too hot or the sauce will burn!) for 45 minutes, turning about every 10 minutes. Baste frequently with the remaining apple butter sauce.

APPLE BUTTER BARBECUE SAUCE

Apple Butter Barbecue Sauce image

I saw jars of apple butter BBQ sauce at an apple orchard a few weeks ago. I thought this was a splendid idea-especially for ribs. I've scoured the Internet, and this recipe looks like the best bet. It's originally from Smuckers, (featuring their apple butter). That said, I made a large batch of apple butter (Recipe #70016), so I'm using homemade. Again, use what you can get.

Provided by John J. OSullivan

Categories     Sauces

Time 20m

Yield 3 cups

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 cup smucker's cider apple butter (or your own)
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
3 teaspoons liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
1 cup finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon paprika

Steps:

  • Add everything together. Well, that's where their recipe ends. I think that's silly. So, let's continue.
  • Sauté the onion in a frying pan with a little bit of olive oil, medium heat. Cook till translucent.
  • Add the garlic, cook for about a minute.
  • Put everything into a sauce pot on medium heat, stir everything together.
  • Before a boil begins, drop the heat to low and simmer for 15-20 min., stirring frequently.
  • Take it off heat, let it cool for 30 minute (unless you're canning, of course).
  • Store it however you wish. It should keep in the fridge for 30 days, in a freezer for longer, or just can it.
