Steps:
- In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons flour, salt, and pepper. Coat the short ribs with the flour mixture.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Brown short ribs in olive oil.
- In a slow cooker, combine onions, wine, chili sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and chili powder. Mix thoroughly. Transfer the short ribs from the skillet to the slow cooker.
- Cover, and cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours.
- Remove ribs, and turn the slow cooker control to High. Mix the remaining 2 tablespoons of flour with 1/4 cup water, and stir into the sauce. Cook for 10 minutes, or until slightly thickened.

GERMAN-STYLE SHORT RIBS
Our whole family is excited when I plug in the slow cooker to make these fall-off-the-bone tender ribs. We like them served over rice or egg noodles. Husband Mark and I have eight children, ages 16 years to 3 months, whom I homeschool.

- In a 5-qt. slow cooker, combine the first 11 ingredients. Add ribs and turn to coat. Top with onions. , Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until meat is tender. Remove ribs from slow cooker. Skim fat from cooking juices; serve with ribs and noodles.

SLOW COOKER SHORT RIBS
Steps:
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the oil. Season the short ribs with salt and pepper. When the oil is hot, brown the short ribs, in batches, until they are browned on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- While the short ribs are browning, place a layer of onion and carrot pieces into the bottom of a slow cooker and season them with salt and pepper. Place the browned meat on top. Add the remaining onions and carrots along with the parsnips and turnips. Tie together the rosemary and thyme with the parsley stems and add them to the pot along with the Worcestershire and mustard. Pour over the stout and add enough water to almost cover the contents. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until the meat is very tender.
- To serve, carefully remove the meat and vegetables from the slow cooker. Strain the juices. Serve the ribs with the juice and garnish with chopped parsley leaves.

- Put the ribs in the slow cooker. (It's okay if they're frozen, you don't have to bother thawing them). Slice the onion and place it on top of the ribs. Pour the sauce over the onion and ribs.
- Set the slow cooker on Low and cook for 8-9 hours. (If you put the ribs in thawed, cut about 1 hour off the cooking time).

- Put 4 tbsp of barbecue sauce along with the rest of the ingredients into your slow cooker. Top up with enough water to cover (roughly 1.5l). Slow cook on Low for 8 - 9 hours until very tender but not completely falling off the bone.
- Heat the oven to 220C/ 200C fan/ gas mark 7. Remove the ribs from the slow cooker using a slotted spoon or tongs. Handle them carefully as the meat will be very tender and may start to fall off. Baste with the remaining barbecue sauce and lay on a foil-lined oven tray. Cook for 20 - 30 mins until starting to crisp on outside. - Sprinkle ribs with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. In batches, brown ribs on all sides; transfer to a 4- or 5-qt. slow cooker. Add carrots, broth, thyme and bay leaf to ribs., Add onions to the same skillet; cook and stir over medium heat 8-9 minutes or until tender. Add garlic and tomato paste; cook and stir 1 minute longer. Stir in wine. Bring to a boil; cook 8-10 minutes or until liquid is reduced by half. Add to slow cooker. - In 12-inch skillet, cook bacon over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until crisp. Remove bacon from skillet to large bowl; reserve drippings in skillet.
- Sprinkle both sides of ribs with salt and pepper; cook in drippings until browned.
- Meanwhile, stir cabbage, apples and onion into bacon in bowl.
