SLOPPY HOT DOGS

Kids love 'em! Two of their favorites in one, sliced hot dogs in an easy homemade sloppy joe sauce.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/3 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 pound hot dog, cut into 1/4-inch slices
8 hot dog or hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • Heat oil in 10-inch skillet over medium heat. Cook bell pepper and onion in oil, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender.
  • Stir in barbecue sauce, tomato sauce and hot dogs. Simmer uncovered 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Fill buns with hot dog mixture.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb ground beef
3 slices bacon (diced)
4 slices American cheese, White
4 potato dinner rolls
1 (12 ounce) can chopped tomatoes (crushed)
1 onion (diced)
salt
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
4 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
chicken stock (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef with a pinch of salt and paprika.
  • In a second pan add remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil and bacon. Cook for 1-2 minutes. Add onion to pan and continue cooking. Add tomatoes and simmer for another minute.
  • Transfer onion, tomato and bacon mixture to the browning meat. Stir to combine ingredients. Add cheese and stir to combine and melt. Note: If the meat is too dry you can add a little chicken stock to help moisten it.
  • Serve Sloppy Mikes on potato rolls.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1 pound ground beef
1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon each ground chili powder and cumin
1 cup tomato sauce
1 cup chili sauce
10 ounce package thawed frozen corn kernels
1/2 cup water
Salt and pepper
Toasted hamburger buns, English muffins or egg bread

Steps:

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet. Add onion and saute for 5 minutes or until somewhat tender. Add beef and garlic continue to saute 10 minutes until beef is cooked. Stir in ground chili and cumin, tomato and chili sauces, corn, water and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Spoon over bread of choice.
  • VARIATION FOR ADULTS: Toast bread, top with thin slices of Swiss, Monterey Jack or Cheddar cheese and melt slightly in toaster oven. After hamburger mix is done, separate mixture between two skillets. To adults portion add chopped green chilis or minced fresh jalapeno peppers. Can top with sour cream and slivers of red bell pepper.

1 pound lean ground beef
1 cup ketchup
¼ cup dried minced onion
3 tablespoons brown sugar, or to taste
2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, or more to taste
1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 cup beef broth
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Cook and stir ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until meat is browned and crumbly, about 10 minutes; drain excess grease. Mix ketchup, dried onion, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoke flavoring, and garlic into beef, stirring until brown sugar has dissolved.
  • Stir beef broth into beef mixture and bring to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer until thick, about 30 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper.
