  • Choose the location. Basically, a linear shower drain can be installed in 4 different ways, either wall mounted (one-sided or three-sided) or floor mounted (free in the floor or between two walls).
  • Prepare your work area. Before starting the installation process, please check if the floor and work area are clean. Another important thing is to make sure debris or filth cannot get into the shower drain during assembly.
  • Calculate the height of the shower drain. First you need to determine the height of the shower drain. Keep in mind that the tiles should be laid level or 1 mm higher than the top edge of the shower drain, to ensure optimal water drainage.
  • Place the built-in set. After creating space for the shower drain, the built-in set needs to be inserted, aligned and levelled. This can be done using the height adjustable legs.
  • Connect to drainage pipe. We recommend replacing drainage pipes with diameter less than 50 mm. This may be the case in renovation projects, where there a shower tray has been installed.
  • Create a sloped floor. Provide adequate slope to the screed floor so the water runs to the shower drain. In order to avoid hollow spaces under the shower drain, make sure that enough material used and it connects to the upper edge of the shower drain’s flange.
  • Watertight installation. As soon as the screed has hardened it’s time to waterproof the shower drain. This can be done using the Water Protection System.
  • Place your bathroom tiles. When tiling, make sure you create a slope with a minimal gradient of 2% towards the shower drains. It is important to ensure that the tiles are not placed directly at the shower drain, about 5 mm needs to remain free in order to apply the elastic sealant.
  • Seal the shower drain. Once the tiles have been placed, the joint between the tiled floor and the drain should be permanently sealed with an elastic sealant (maintenance joint).
  • Place the grate cover. After letting the sealing dry the shower drain can be cleaned, afterwards, the height adjustable grate can be placed and adapted to tile thickness.

  • Prepare for pipe size discrepancies. The majority of shower drainpipes are two inches in diameter, but if you have two-inch drains and you run into a three-inch drainpipe, you’ll be making another trip to the plumbing supply store.
  • Assume you’ll have to cut through the ceiling. In most cases, you won’t be able to avoid cutting through the ceiling below the shower to gain access.
  • Tight spots spell trouble. It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally when you cut through the ceiling below the shower you find wiring or pipes that prevent you from getting your water pump pliers firmly on the nut that connects the drain to the pipe.
  • Sometimes it’s easier to replace the whole trap. Whenever you’re installing a shower drain with welded connections, you have to cut the drainpipe to remove the old drain.
  • Take care not to block weep holes. Installing a new drain in a tiled shower is another scenario that often necessitates replacing the entire shower floor.
