Steps:
- In a medium sized saucepan, heat oil over Med/Hi heat.
- add your garlic, onion and green bell pepper (we call this sofrito) and saute until tender.
- add your beans(liquid from beans as well), 2 pks of sazon, oregano, water and sugar.
- stir it all up and increase heat to High.
- once boiling, lower heat to simmer for about 30 minutes.
- add cap of vinegar and stir up
- serve over rice
- enjoy!

Steps:
- Start the rice cooking if you want to serve it over rice.
- saute onions, garlic and peppers until tender in olive oil in a pan large enough to simmer all ingredients (about 5 minutes).
- Add everything else except cilantro and lime wedges and simmer for 8 minutes.
- Sprinkle with cilantro and serve with lime wedges.
CLASSIC BLACK BEANS AND RICE
This is a typical dish served in Cuba or Puerto Rico, each country has their own method of preparation. You can flavor this dish with meat, but I left it out as I serve it as a side dish with my meats. It is an easy and healthy short cut and takes about 30 minutes to cook.

Steps:
- Heat oil in a medium sauce pan, sauté onion,green pepper, and garlic.
- Sauté until tender@8-10 minutes.
- Add in remaining ingredients and stir until boiling, reduce heat and simmer until sauce is reduced@ 20 minutes.
- Serve over white rice.
- I like to mash a few of the beans with the back of a spoon to flavor the sauce.
- Note: if you do not have Sazòn Goya an appropriate substitute would be ground cumin, chicken bouillon, and garlic salt to taste.
SAZON GOYA BEANS AND RICE - VEGAN
A simple, healthy, easy and even affordable dinner. BTW: It also tastes pretty good. I like Sazon Goya slightly better, but that's probably for the same reason I don't want to eat it - MSG.

Steps:
- Saute onions in olive oil for 2 minutes.
- Add garlic and bell pepper and saute 3 minutes.
- Stir in 2 cans of beans (including the liquid) and the sazon goya spice mix.
- Simmer for 10 minutes - more for softer beans - less for firmer beans.
- Serve over brown rice and top with chopped cilantro. I like to squeeze several drops of lime juice on every bite, but I'm a hard-core citrus lover. :-).
