freshly caught live Dungeness crabs
filtered water
spices (optional)

Steps:

  • Put rack or other steamer insert in the pot.
  • Add water until the level is at the same height as the rack so water doesn't reach the crabs. Bring to a rolling boil over very high heat.
  • Optionally sprinkle the crabs with spices, such as Old Bay.
  • Place crabs in pot and cover tightly with lid.
  • Steam for 12 minutes, remove lid, and let stand until crabs are cool enough to handle.

Yield 6 or 4 with leftovers for an omlet the next am!

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 Dungeness crabs ( killed & cleaned)
3/4 bottle of dry white wine
6 lemons cut in half
2 large sprigs of rosemary
6 cloves crushed garlic
2 tablespoons of sugar
2 med white onions chopped coursely
1/4 cup of water
2 tsp of Old Bay Seasoning
1 tsp of salt

Steps:

  • In a large boiler pour in the wine and water Squeeze the juice out of the lemons into the liquid and throw the rinds into the pot Add the onions, rosmary, garlic,sugar,salt and old bay to the liquid Bring mixture to a rolling boil boil until liquid just covers the tops of lemon rinds. Add crab sections and cover tightly After every two or three minutes grab the pot with lid still on and give it a good shake, to reposition the crab sections and distribute the flavorings. Steam for a total of 10 to 12 minutes until the crab is a bright red color. Serve with drawn butter, crab crackers, and a clean bowl for the shells. Bon appetit!!! Yum Yum
