THE BEST SANGRIA

The Best Sangria image

The longer sangria sits before drinking, the more smooth and mellow it will taste. A full day is best, but if that's impossible, give it an absolute minimum of two hours to sit. Use large, heavy, juicy oranges and lemons for the best flavor. Doubling or tripling the recipe is fine, but you'll have to switch to a large punch bowl in place of the pitcher. Time 2h10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 large oranges, washed, one orange sliced, remaining orange juiced
1 large lemon, washed and sliced
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup triple sec
1 (750 ml) bottle inexpensive fruity medium-bodied red wine, chilled

Steps:

  • Add sliced orange and lemon and sugar to large pitcher; mash gently with wooden spoon until fruit releases some juice, but is not totally crushed, and sugar dissolves, about 1 minute.
  • Stir in orange juice, Triple Sec, and wine; refrigerate for at least 2, and up to 8, hours.
  • Before serving, add 6 to 8 ice cubes and stir briskly to distribute settled fruit and pulp; serve immediately.

SUMMER SHADE SANGRIA

Summer Shade Sangria image

Refreshing, juicy, and full-bodied, Ivy Mix's sangria will cool you down like shade in summertime. Flavored with berries and Cynar, it's a far cry from your average cantina's. (Note: Plan ahead, as berries need to infuse alcohol for at least 3 hours before serving.)

Provided by Ivy Mix

Categories     beverage

Time 3h15m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 cup blueberries, plus additional for garnish
1/2 cup raspberries, plus additional for garnish
3 ounces Cynar, an Italian apéritif
1/2 ounce simple syrup, heat equal parts sugar and water until sugar dissolves; cool before using
1 ounce bourbon
1 bottle light-bodied red wine, such as Garnacha, Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir
1 ounce lemon juice
2 ounces orange juice
Ice cubes

Steps:

  • Into a mixing glass, add blueberries and raspberries. Muddle until berries become a chunky mash. Add Cynar and stir to combine; then add bourbon and simple syrup, and stir. Chill mixture in refrigerator for 3 hours and up to overnight to allow berries to infuse the alcohol.
  • Pour berry mixture and wine into a serving pitcher. Add lemon juice, orange juice, and ice to fill the pitcher; stir well to combine. Top with one handful each of blueberries and raspberries. Strain into glasses; add ice cubes and more berries to garnish before serving.
