DH and I made these margaritas last night, which I found in the April 2009 edition of Bon Appetit. They are credited to the bistro, Stack, inside The Mirage in Los Vegas. I thought these were really good. I liked how they were not overly sweet. Using a good tequila is important. I used Don Julio in my first one (that DH brought back from Mexico several years ago) and when it ran out, I tried it with Hornitos Plata. I could definitely tell the difference (the Don Julio being smoother), but both were nice. DH suggested using a Reposado. Enjoy.

Ingredients

sugar
3 lime slices
ice cube
6 tablespoons tequila
3 tablespoons Grand Marnier (or other orange liqueur)
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1/2 teaspoon rose water

Steps:

Sprinkle sugar on small plate. Run 1 lime slice around rims of 2 Martini glasses; dip rims into sugar to coat.
Fill cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice, and rose water. Shake well.
Strain into prepared glasses.
Garnish drinks with remaining lime slices.

This is a Strawberry Margarita with a twist. Tequila Rose Liqueur is one of the ingredients. Tequila Rose is Strawberry Flavor Cream Liqueur and Tequila and is pink, creamy and tasty. I have made this drink two different ways. In a blender, which makes the drink foamy because of the 7up, and in a tall glass. I got the original recipe from the Tequila Rose web site and improvised it a little bit. If you want to, you can use Club Soda instead of 7Up. I don't know how it tastes with Club Soda though. It is a very refreshing drink.

Ingredients

1/4 cup tequila rose strawberry cream liqueur
1/2 cup strawberry margarita mix
3/4 cup 7-Up soda (or Club Soda)
1/8 cup tequila (optional)

Steps:

In a Blender: Place all ingredients in a blender.
If you want a stronger drink add the tequila.
Blend until well blended (about 15-20 seconds).
Pour into a tall glass.
The drink will be foamy when made this way.
In a glass: Pour the 7up (or Club Soda) into the glass first to prevent the drink from foaming.
Add the Tequila Rose and Margarita Mix and mix well.
If you want a stronger drink, add the tequila and stir until well mixed.
Garnish with a strawberry if you want to.
Now sit back and relax and enjoy your drink.
Warning!
If you add the extra tequila you might not be able to taste it.
This can cause more than one drink to sneak up on you.

ROSé SANGRIA

What's pink, pretty and packs a punch? This rosy riff on sangria, which is loaded with red and pink fruit for a festive, crowd-friendly treat. Be sure to plan ahead: The fruit needs to macerate for at least 4 hours to soak up the flavors and to soften. For the wine, choose a rosé that is neither too sweet nor too dry. It should taste good to you on its own, but since it will be mingling with juice, liquor and a whole lot of fruit, go with something inexpensive.

2 1/2 cups mixed red and pink fruit of your choice (raspberries, halved strawberries and grapes, cubed apple with red or pink skin, peeled pink grapefruit and blood orange sections, pomegranate seeds)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 cup triple sec
2 (750-milliliter) bottles rosé wine, chilled
1 cup pomegranate juice, chilled

Steps:

Place the fruit, sugar and triple sec in a pitcher and stir to combine; let rest in the refrigerator until fruit softens and absorbs flavors, at least 4 and up to 8 hours. Add wine and pomegranate juice; stir to combine. Serve over ice in wine glasses.
