1/4 cup brandy
2 tablespoons raspberry liqueur
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 cups raspberries
1 1/2 cups quartered strawberries
1 sliced lemon
1 1/2 cups seltzer

Steps:

  • Mix the wine, liqueur and sugar in a pitcher, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then add the fruit.
  • Refrigerate at least 1 hour and up to 1 day.
  • Add the seltzer just before serving.

At our last big family get-together, we sampled something like this someone bought from the Liquor Store. Yum. I havn't tried this recipe yet; but I like home-made Bailey's, so I'm expecting to like this one too.

1 1/2 cups sweetened condensed milk
1 cup cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 cup strawberry syrup
1/2 cup tequila (your preference)

Steps:

  • Measure all ingredients into a blender.
  • Blend until mixed and smooth. Store in refrigerator until serving time.
  • I think, like the homemade Bailey's recipes, likely keeping chilled a week will allow the flavors to blend. All measurements are a starting point. If it needs more or less of something then adjust as needed.

1 cup rose petal
3 cups vodka
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon glycerin (optional)
food coloring (optional)

Steps:

  • In a quart jar, add petals, 1 cup sugar, and vodka.
  • Seal jar tightly, and place in a dry, dark place for about 2 weeks.
  • After two weeks, strain the liquid using a double layer of cheese cloth. Gently squeeze the petals, getting as much juice as possible.
  • In a fresh quart jar, add the second cup of sugar, glycerin, coloring, water to top and the strained liquid. Seal and store again in a dark place until sugar is dissolved.
  • Once the sugar has all dissolved, bottle the resulting liqueur in a fresh bottle and let age for roughly 3 months.

This is my mum's recipe for rose syrup - and the name of their cottage in England! Try to use old English shrub roses, as they are highly fragranced and impart a delicate flavour to the syrup. The correct word for this recipe would be a Shrub or a Ratafia, as it is fortified with brandy - however, Ratafia would also have fruit or almond kernels added; it would have been offered as a refreshing "pick-me-up" to gentile ladies - with water or lemonade added of course! This recipe is well over 100 years old and a bottle of this would make an unusual and delighttful gift.

1 1/2 lbs fresh fragrant red rose petals (free of pesticides)
2 lbs white sugar
1 pint good brandy
1 pint cold water

Steps:

  • Boil the sugar and water to a clear syrup. Alow it to cool and when it is a little more than blood-warm, pour it over half a pound of fresh red rose petals. Cover it with muslin or a tea towel, and leave it in a cool, dark place for twenty-four hours.
  • On the second day, strain into a clean container, and then add the second supply of rose petals.
  • On the third day put in the last half pound of rose petals and leave to infuse for one more day.
  • On the fourth day, strain through a muslin bag or a mesh sieve into a clean conatiner. Add the brandy; then strain again through a muslin bag or a mesh sieve, stir well and bottle.
  • This liqueur syrup is delightful as a beverage, mixed with sparkling water or lemonade; it is also wonderful when added to flavour custards, creams, desserts, cheesecakes or ice creams.
