Quick and Easy Sweet and Sticky Orange Chicken Glaze image

Yield 1 1/2 cups glaze

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup hoisin sauce
1 orange, zested
1/4 to 1/3 cup fresh orange juice
Hot chicken, for serving
1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds, for sprinkling

Steps:

  • To make the glaze: In a medium bowl, mix the hoisin, orange zest and enough orange juice so the hoisin is a little looser but still thick enough to stick to the chicken.
  • Toss with hot chicken and sprinkle with sesame seeds to coat.

1/2 cup confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix confectioners' sugar and 1 to 2 teaspoons water until a smooth but thick glaze forms (too thin a glaze will be absorbed by the cake). Place a piece of waxed paper under cooling rack for easy cleanup. Spoon glaze back and forth over cake, forming a pattern. Keep cake on cooling rack until glaze is set, 15 to 20 minutes.

6 tablespoons cocoa powder
5 tablespoons butter
1 cup confectioners' sugar
¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons hot water, divided

Steps:

  • Melt cocoa and butter together in a small saucepan over low heat, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in confectioners' sugar and vanilla extract. Stir in hot water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until glaze is thick and smooth.

Quick and Easy Glaze image

This glaze is perfect for those times when you just can't be bothered with frosting cookies. It's also perfect for pastries! I use this glaze on my Monkey Bread, sugar cookies, ricotta cookies, and even brownies. It's versatile and, above all, easy. If you see a recipe posted by me, it will almost always contain the word "Quick" or "Easy"... this one is both! This easy glaze recipe has been handed down from the greatest cook of all time... my mom!

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 tablespoons butter (no substitutions)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon hot water
1 teaspoon hot water
1 cup powdered sugar (confectioners sugar)
2 -3 drops food coloring, of your choice (optional)

Steps:

  • In a 1 cup Pyrex measuring cup, melt 2 Tablespoons butter in the microwave on high for about 1 minute or until butter is completely melted.
  • Add the 1 Tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of hot water, 1 teaspoon vanilla, food color and powdered sugar (yes -- it does all fit in a 1 cup Pyrex measuring cup).
  • Stir until smooth.
  • Drizzle glaze over cookies/pastries/whatever. I have used a pattern of just hash marks, glazing many cookies at once, and have also used a swirly pattern.
  • Note: you can substitute any other extract flavor for the vanilla. I have made this many times with almond extract, lemon extract, orange extract, etc. I usually use food color that blends with the season -- pink, green, blue for Spring, red and green for Christmas, etc.
