PECHENI YABALKI (BAKED APPLES)
Pecheni yabalki are traditional baked apples from Bulgaria. The particularity of this recipe is the addition of walnuts to the filling.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350F/180C.
- Core the apples.
- In a bowl, mix butter and sugar, then add walnuts and cinnamon. Place the cored apples in a baking dish. Fill the apples with the mixture.
- Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until soft.
- Drizzle honey on top of the apples. Serve hot with vanilla ice cream.
PECHENI YABALKIS MED I OREHI (BULGARIAN - HONEY WALNUT BAKED APPLES)
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
- In a bowl, combine the soaked raisins, honey, cinnamon and walnuts, set aside
- Core the apples and score the skin.
- Fill each apple with a tablespoon of the filling mixture.
- Place the apples standing up in a baking dish or pie tin.
- Lower the heat to 300 degrees and bake for 60 minutes or until the apples are tender.
- Serve warm

Steps:
- Core apples; peel top third of each apple.
- Put apples in a shallow baking dish.
- Mix together the walnuts and raisins; stuff cavities of apples with walnut-raisin mixture.
- In a saucepan, combine water, honey, and cinnamon; bring to a boil.
- Lower heat and simmer 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.
- Remove cinnamon stick; pour liquid over apples.
- Cover and bake in a 350° oven for 45-50 minutes or until apples are tender, basting occasionally.
WALNUT BAKED APPLES
This is another twist on baked apples. I like to serve it with vanilla ice cream. The spices make this very flavorful.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 2 quart casserole dish, or coat with non-stick cooking spray.
- Place apples in a large bowl. In a small bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Stir spice mixture into apples until evenly distributed. Fold in raisins and walnuts. Spoon into prepared dish. Pour milk evenly over apple mixture.
- Bake in preheated oven for 45 to 60 minutes, or until soft and bubbly. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
