MY FAMILY'S FAVORITE: MISSISSIPPI GREEN BEANS image

What makes Mississippi greens beans so irresistible? The secret is in the sauce. The butter, EVOO, bacon, brown sugar and soy cook into a thick, sweet, smoky, salty syrup that melts into the beans during slow cooking and makes them over the top delicious. They're my family's favorite green beans, so I make them all the time....

Number Of Ingredients 6

Ingredients

3/4 stick butter (not margarine)
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 c brown sugar
2 Tbsp soy sauce
6 can(s) green beans, drained
6 slice bacon, diced or chopped into small pieces

Steps:

1. In a small saucepan, add oil, butter, and diced bacon.
2. Heat over medium heat until butter melts and bacon is cooked and just crisped. Stir well.
3. Add brown sugar and soy; stirring until smooth.
4. OVEN: Bake at 350 degrees, covered, for 30 minutes and then uncovered for 15-20 minutes.
5. SLOW COOKER: Cook on low 6-7 hours or high 4-5 hours.
