POPPY SEED CHEESE BREAD

- Dissolve yeast and sugar in water. Combine milk, shortening and salt; stir into yeast mixture. Add enough flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 3 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1-1/2 hours. , Punch down dough; press into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes., Preheat oven to 425°. Combine cheese, egg, milk and onion; spread over dough. Sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake 15-20 minutes. Cut into squares; serve warm.

SOURDOUGH PARTY CHEESE BREAD

- 1. Cut the bread lengthwise and widthwise without cutting through the bottom crust. Insert cheese between cuts. Combine butter, garlic, onions and poppy seeds; drizzle over the bread. Sprinkle lightly with pepper. Wrap in foil and place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Unwrap, and bake 10 minutes longer or until the cheese is melted. Looks so pretty when it fans out a little! Enjoy!!

- In a small bowl, combine the butter, lemon juice, mustard, garlic powder and onion powder then set aside.
- Cut bread diagonally into 1-inch slices to within a 1/2-inch of the bottom of the loaf (DO NOT cut all the way through). Repeat cuts in opposite direction.
- Arrange cheese slices in the cuts then drizzle butter mixture over the bread.
- Wrap loaf in foil and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake at 350F for 15 minutes then uncover and bake 10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Serve warm.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat; cook and stir onion in the melted butter until translucent, 5 to 10 minutes. Stir poppy seeds into onion mixture.
- Cut bread into slices, leaving them still attached on the bottom of the loaf. Put an American cheese slice into each slit; spoon poppy seed mixture into each slit. Wrap loaf with aluminum foil.
