This is the classic traditional stuffing recipe that everyone loves! It's so simple, easy, and delicious - a must on everyone's Thanksgiving dinner table.

1 pound firm white sandwich, French, or Italian bread (cut into ½-¾ inch cubes, about 10 cups)
6 tablespoons butter
1 onion (diced)
2 stalks celery (diced)
2 cloves garlic
⅓ cup fresh parsley (chopped)
2 tablespoons fresh sage
1 tablespoon fresh thyme
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 cups chicken or vegetable stock or broth (divided)
2 eggs (beaten)

Steps:

  • To lightly toast the bread, place on a baking sheet and toast in the oven at 210°F (100°C) for 90 minutes, flipping every 30 minutes. This can be done a few days ahead.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • In a medium skillet, over medium heat, melt the butter and saute the onion and celery until tender (not brown). Add the garlic, and cook for a minute or until it's fragrant then remove from heat.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread with the butter-veg mixture, and chopped herbs. Season with salt and pepper. Add a cup of stock, and mix everything with a spatula or your hands.
  • Combine beaten eggs with the remaining stock or broth, and add it gradually to the bread. Keep mixing and make sure that the bread is soaked all the way through but not mushy.
  • Transfer to a 13 x 9-inch baking pan, cover with foil, and bake for 35-45 minutes or until an instant read thermometer registers 160°F in the center of the stuffing. Uncover the brown the top for 10 minutes or until it's golden and crispy.

1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter
1 cup small-diced celery
1 cup medium-diced onions
1 loaf Texas toast, medium diced
30 ounces chicken stock
3 tablespoons fresh sage leaves, minced
2 tablespoons fresh parsley leaves, minced
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon ground white pepper

Steps:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, add the butter and allow to warm. Then add the celery and onions. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, stirring with a spoon, for 15 minutes. Once cooked, remove the pan from the stovetop.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Put the Texas toast cubes in a 12-by-18-inch roasting pan. Add the celery mixture, stock, sage, parsley, garlic, salt and pepper. Gently mix and allow to rest for 20 to 30 minutes. During the rest, stir gently again with a spoon, ensuring not to break the bread apart. After resting and marinating the bread, cover with foil and bake until set, 30 to 45 minutes. Once cooked, remove from the oven and serve.

2 cups chopped celery
1 cup chopped onion
2 teaspoons McCormick® Thyme Leaves
1 1/2 teaspoons McCormick® Poultry Seasoning
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon McCormick® Black Pepper, Ground
12 cups dry unseasoned bread cubes
4 cups chicken broth

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Melt butter in large skillet on medium heat. Add celery and onion; cook and stir 5 minutes. Stir in thyme, poultry seasoning, seasoned salt and pepper.
  • 2. Place bread cubes in large bowl. Add celery mixture and broth; toss gently until well mixed. Spoon into lightly greased 13x9-inch baking dish.
  • 3. Bake 35 minutes or until heated through and lightly browned.

MUSHROOM HERB STUFFING

8 ounces white mushrooms
3 quarts of slightly dry whole wheat bread cubes
1 1/2 teaspoons sage
1 1/2 teaspoons thyme
1 1/2 teaspoons rosemary
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/3 cup chopped parsley
1/3 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup finely diced celery
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 cup canned chicken broth

Steps:

  • Clean and slice the mushrooms with an egg slicer. Sauté in 1 tablespoons of butter with the chopped onions and celery.
  • Combine the bread cubes, seasonings, sautéed mushrooms, onions, and celery.
  • And the remaining butter.
  • Add the chicken broth and mix well.
  • Mixes 8 cups of stuffing or enough to stuff.
  • A 10-12 lb. Turkey.
