Time 42m

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup granulated sugar
¼ cup light brown sugar
2 tablespoons orange zest, plus more for topping
1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ cup orange juice, freshly squeezed
1 egg

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Position two racks in the upper and lower third of the oven and heat to 350 F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray.
  • In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sugars and orange zest. Mix together with your fingers to release the oils from the zest and infuse the sugar.
  • Cream the butter and zest-sugar together using a hand mixer on medium-high until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Alternatively, use a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment on medium-high speed.
  • Add the orange juice, vanilla extract, and the egg. Mix on medium until fully combined, scraping down the bowl as needed.
  • Reduce the speed to low and gradually add the mixed dry ingredients, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Refrigerate the dough for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, make the glaze. In a medium bowl, whisk the sifted confectioners' sugar, orange juice, water, and vanilla extract until smooth. Cover and set aside for glazing later (omit the water if you want a thicker glaze).
  • Using a medium cookie scoop , scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake until the edges begin to turn golden, about 10 minutes.
  • Cool on the cookies on the baking sheets for 5 minutes. Transfer to a rack placed over a baking sheet.
  • Glaze the cookies with glaze and garnish with more orange zest. Serve once the glaze dries.

ORANGE ZESTED COOKIES WITH SWEET ORANGE GLAZE RECIPE - (4.4/5)

Orange Zested Cookies With Sweet Orange Glaze Recipe - (4.4/5) image

Provided by kayjayjohnson

Number Of Ingredients 12

GLAZE:
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons orange zest
2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1 egg
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon orange zest
fresh orange juice

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. In a small bowl, mix the sugar and orange zest. Rub together with your fingers until zest is throughout the sugar. The sugar will become moist from the oils being released. Using a mixer, cream the butter and orange zested sugar. Add egg and orange juice. Slowly add the dry ingredients until well incorporated. At this point you can chill for an hour or so or overnight. Scoop onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and roll into smooth round balls. Bake at 350°F for about 10 to 12 minutes or until very lightly golden on the bottoms. Don't over bake or they will be a bit to dry and lose the perfect texture. Mix the confectioners' sugar, orange zest and enough orange juice to get a glaze consistency and mix until smooth and creamy. Pour glaze over the tops of the cookies and let set. Feel free to mix up the citruses. Use lemons or limes instead of oranges, or use some of each.

SIMPLE ORANGE GLAZE

Simple Orange Glaze image

This glaze is fresh and delicious. It uses real orange juice, not the stuff out of the container. It adds a real nice kick to angel food cake or any kind of loaf cake.
