Provided by Lauren Lee

Categories     Drinks

Time 7m

Yield 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lime, thin-skinned, washed
kosher salt, for coating rims
⅓ cup tequila blanco
½ cup filtered water
1 ½ tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons orange flavored liqueur, such as Cointreau
ice, for serving
2 lime wheels, for garnish

  • Trim off the very ends of the lime, then cut the lime lengthwise into quarters.
  • Rub one of the lime quarters around the rims of two glasses, then dip the rims in salt to coat.
  • Add the lime quarters, tequila, water, sugar, and orange liqueur, to a blender. Blend on high speed until the lime is broken down and only small specks of green remain, 1-2 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a spouted measuring cup to remove any solids, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible.
  • Fill the glasses with ice, then evenly divide the margarita mixture between the two. Garnish each glass with a lime wheel and serve immediately.
  • Enjoy!

  • In a spice grinder or coffee grinder that’s dedicated for spices, or a small food processor combine the lime zest, sugar, and salt. Pulse a few times until the mixture is mostly fine, yet still has quite a bit of texture.
  • Transfer the salt and sugar mixture to a small saucer. To a separate saucer add the shot of tequila. Turn your serving glass upside down and dip the rim of the glass into the tequila. Hold it upside down for 5 to 10 seconds. Then immediately dip the still wet edge into the salt/sugar mixture, and rotate it a little. Place the glass right side up, and set aside until you are ready to pour your margarita. Repeat this process for as many margaritas as you are making.
  • To a cocktail shaker add the tequila, orange juice, lime juice, agave nectar, and ice cubes. Put the lid on tight and shake until most of the ice cubes have melted.
  • Strain the mixture into your rimmed serving glass. Add a large cocktail cube (highly recommended). Garnish the rim with a slice of orange and lime slices/wedges, if desired. Serve immediately.
