Here's what you need: farfalle pasta, olive oil, hot italian sausages, sweet italian sausages, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, white onion, garlic, diced tomato, oregano, salt, black ground pepper

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb farfalle pasta, or any short pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 hot italian sausages
3 sweet italian sausages
1 red bell pepper, large, diced
1 green bell pepper, large, diced
1 yellow bell pepper, large, diced
½ white onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, sliced
28 oz diced tomato
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black ground pepper

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil, add a generous amount of salt, and cook pasta 2 minutes less than the package instructions.
  • Strain pasta and set aside. Toss with a small amount of oil to prevent sticking
  • In the same pot, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil and fry sausages, working in batches as needed, until deeply browned on all sides.
  • Remove sausages, slice in ¾-inch (2 cm) rings, and set aside.
  • Sauté all of the bell peppers, onion, and garlic for about 2 minutes.
  • Add the canned tomatoes, all of the spices, and the sausage slices to the pot.
  • Simmer about 10 minutes.
  • Add the pasta back to the pot and stir gently until all the ingredients are coated in the sauce. Continue simmering until pasta is al dente.
  • Serve with grated parmesan.

An irresistible and super simple one-pot pasta dish filled with spicy sausage and a silky tomato cream sauce. It's a perfect family-friendly meal for busy weeknights!

2 tbsp olive oil
1 red pepper, chopped (about 1 ½ cups)
1 medium onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
4 cloves garlic, minced
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
½ tsp ground fennel or 1 tsp fennel seeds (optional - see note below)
¼ tsp red pepper flakes
1 lb ground hot or sweet sausage (or a mix of both)
¼ cup dry white wine
16 oz marinara sauce
6 tbsp heavy cream
8 oz short pasta shapes, like penne
4 cups water
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
¼ cup chopped fresh basil

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and saute the peppers and onions until they start to soften, about 8 minutes. Stir in the garlic, fennel, red pepper flakes, and a good pinch of salt and a few cranks of black pepper. Crumble the sausage into the skillet and cook with the peppers and onions until browned. Pour the wine into the skillet and scrape up the bits on the bottom of the pan. Pour the sauce and 3 cups of water into the skillet and then stir the pasta into the mixture until well-combined.
  • Bring the liquid to a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low, and cover. Allow the liquid to simmer, stirring occasionally at first and more frequently towards the end to prevent the pasta from sticking, for about 15 to 17 minutes. Every 5 minutes or so, stir in a little of the remaining cup of water. If the liquid starts boiling over, reduce the heat to low.
  • When the pasta is cooked through, stir in the cream, Parmesan cheese, and most of the basil (reserving a little for garnish). Allow the cream to heat through for 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the dish to cool for 5 minutes, sprinkle the remaining basil over the top, and serve.

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 lb. spicy pork sausage (casings removed*)
1 medium yellow onion (chopped)
16 ounces cremini mushrooms (sliced)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
16 ounces roasted red peppers (drained)
8 ounces Barilla penne pasta (uncooked)
3 3/4 cups water
1/2 cup heavy cream
5 ounces baby spinach
Freshly grated parmesan cheese (for serving)

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausage and break up into bite sized chunks with the back of a wooden spoon. Saute until browned and no longer pink, and transfer to a bowl using a slotted spoon and set aside. Discard all but 1 tablespoon of the grease.
  • Cook the onion, mushrooms, and garlic in the remaining 1 tablespoon of grease until the onion has softened and the mushrooms have browned and liquid has evaporated, about 5-6 minutes.
  • While the vegetables are cooking, puree the roasted red peppers in a food processor until smooth. Add them to the vegetables along with the pork, pasta, water, and heavy cream. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat slightly. Cook until the pasta has absorbed most of the liquid, about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking.
  • Add the spinach and cook just until wilted and the pasta is al dente. Add salt and pepper, to taste, and serve with freshly grated parmesan. Enjoy!

2 red bell peppers
1 -2 tablespoon olive oil
3 -4 garlic cloves, minced
2 -3 bratwursts, cooked and chopped
1 cup cream
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
salt, to taste
ground black pepper, to taste
1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
12 ounces farfalle pasta (bow-tie)
parmesan cheese (optional)

Steps:

  • Char peppers over gas flame or in broiler until blackened on all sides. Enclose in paper bag 10 minutes.
  • Peel and seed peppers. Transfer peppers to blender and puree until very smooth. Season to taste with salt. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.).
  • In large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic. Stir in bratwurst and heat through.
  • Add cream, red pepper puree, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Stir in Parmesan cheese.
  • Boil pasta according to package directions. Drain. Stir pasta into red pepper cream mixture.
  • Top with additional Parmesan cheese.

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lb bulk mild Italian sausage
1 cup diced onions
1 cup diced red bell pepper (about 1 large)
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 carton (32 oz) Progresso™ chicken broth
1 can (14.5 oz) Muir Glen™ organic fire-roasted crushed tomatoes, undrained
12 oz uncooked penne pasta (3 3/4 cups)
2 cups baby spinach
1/2 cup shredded Italian cheese blend (4 oz)
2 tablespoons shredded fresh basil leaves

Steps:

  • In 8-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Toast bread crumbs in butter 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until browned. Transfer to small bowl; set aside.
  • In 5-quart Dutch oven, heat oil over medium heat. Add sausage; cook 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink. Using slotted spoon, transfer to bowl; cover and keep warm. Add onions, bell pepper, Italian seasoning and salt to oil and drippings in pan; cook over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes or until softened and starting to brown.
  • Stir in broth and tomatoes; heat to boiling. Stir in pasta; return to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered 18 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is cooked to desired tenderness and sauce is thickened. Stir in sausage. Stir in spinach; continue to stir 30 to 60 seconds or until wilted.
  • Remove from heat; top with cheese. Top with basil and toasted bread crumbs.
