BAKED CHEDDAR OLIVES



Baked Cheddar Olives image

A classic retro-style party food. Stuffed olives are wrapped in a cheesy dough and baked until golden brown. Make extra as these go fast at parties!

1 cup Cheddar cheese, grated
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup flour
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or paprika for milder flavor
24 pimiento-stuffed olives

Steps:

  • Drain olives and pat dry with towels. Combine cheese and butter in a bowl. Add flour and cayenne and blend until well mixed. Drop the dough by tablespoons onto wax paper and wrap or mold each piece of dough around an olive, covering it completely. Bake the wrapped olives on a baking sheet in the middle of a preheated 400 degrees F oven for 15 minutes or until golden. Serve warm. Recipe Source: 1969 Gourmet Magazine

Yield Makes about 24 Cheddar olives

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup grated sharp Cheddar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
a 3-ounce jar small pimiento-stuffed green olives (about 24), drained and patted dry

Steps:

  • In a bowl combine the Cheddar and the butter, add the flour and the cayenne, and blend the dough until it is combined well. Drop the dough by tablespoons onto wax paper and wrap or mold each tablespoon around each of the olives, covering each olive completely. Bake the wrapped olives on a baking sheet in the middle of a preheated 400°F. oven for 15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden, and serve them warm.

3/4 c flour
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 tsp paprika
24 stuffed green olives

Steps:

  • 1. Mix cheddar cheese, butter, flour, salt, and paprika to form a dough.
  • 2. Divide dough into 24 small balls.
  • 3. Flatten each ball and wrap around each olive.
  • 4. Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 400F for 12-15 minutes.
  • 5. TIP: Change up the recipe by using different types of stuffed green olives.

My son LOVES these! I found it on wholesomebabyfood.com and I am posting it here for safe keeping. These are really simple to make, don't cost a lot and kids will inhale them! They are recommended for babies that are 6 months and older, but they also advise speaking to your pediatrician before starting your baby on solids. Also, remember to follow the RULE OF FOUR (wait 4 days after introducing new foods) and make sure your baby has had no allergic reactions to any of the foods in this recipe before serving it!

1 (16 ounce) package frozen broccoli, cooked, drained and chopped
1 cup seasoned bread crumbs (I used store bought crumbs but you could probably use homemade)
1 1/2 cups real cheddar cheese, shredded (avoid using processed cheese food)
3 large eggs (check with your pediatrician before feeding eggs to a baby under 1 year or see note at end of recipe) or 5 egg yolks (check with your pediatrician before feeding eggs to a baby under 1 year or see note at end of recipe)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Lightly coat a baking sheet with olive oil and set aside.
  • Combine all remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Before mixing, add seasonings if you like - garlic powder, pepper, basil & oregano for example.
  • Shape mixture into nuggets or fun shapes such as squares or squigglies etc.and place on baking tray.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, turning nuggets over after 15 minutes. Serve warm.
  • Be sure to crumble these if your baby needs.
  • (Note: If your baby cannot have eggs, you can substitute a jar of vegetable puree. Carrot works well).
  • These may also be frozen for up to a week. Reheat in oven the same way you prepared them and allow plenty of time to cool before serving them to your little one.

1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup butter or margarine, melted
½ teaspoon paprika
36 each stuffed olives

Steps:

  • In a small mixing bowl, beat cheese, flour, butter and paprika until blended. Pat olives dry; shape 1 teaspoon of cheese mixture around each. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees F for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
