COFFEE BREAKFAST DRINK
This is from a Quaker Oats recipe pamphlet titled Food Fiber & Fitness. It states in its introduction, "It's smooth and creamy like a shake, but weighs in at a lean 85 calories." I think the oats give it a malted quality (taste and texture) while the hint of coffee adds an adult element. I think it's a nice breakfast drink that two people on the go can easily share.

- Apples. Apples contain 13 grams of natural sugar, which can give you that awake feeling just like a cup of coffee. Unlike coffee, you won't feel a jolt or crash, and the apple's nutrients will release slowly as you digest the fruit so that energized feeling lasts longer.
- Coconut Water. We often put coconut water in the same category as post-workout sports drinks, meant to help you hydrate and recuperate. It's also a perfect pick-me-up in the morning, as high levels of potassium help your body convert carbs into energy.
- Salmon. Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and mackerel are super rich in omega-3s — fats that your body and brain need to function well. These omega-3s reduce inflammation that can cause fatigue.
- Sweet Potatoes. These spuds are a great example of how complex carbs (naturally sweet, fiber-rich foods) affect you differently than refined carbs (sugar-added, low-fiber foods).
- Almonds and Cashews. These nuts are a one-two punch of natural energy. First, magnesium helps turn glucose (the blood sugar your body makes) into energy you can use.
