MOUSES

Mouses image

I tasted these at a BBQ and after quizzing the maker, I came up with these. They are called mouses because they sort of look like computer mouses (which are not called mice even if you own more than one :-)!) They apparently freeze well in layers separated by cling film. I found the Ajvar at my local supermarket and after googling it, it seems fairly easily obtainable. It's a pureed condiment made in Europe from a mix of bell peppers, eggplant and tomato. There is one recipe on 'zaar for it if you'd like to make your own but it doesn't contain tomato like the comercial one I bought.

Provided by JustJanS

Categories     Meat

Time 23m

Yield 12 mouses

Number Of Ingredients 14

12 wooden skewers, soaked in water for about 1 hour
400 g ground beef (mince)
400 g ground pork (mince)
1 onion, very finely chopped
1 inch fresh ginger, minced
1 large garlic clove, finely chopped
2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon cumin seed (optional)
1/2 teaspoon chili powder (or to taste)
1 teaspoon salt
fresh ground black pepper
1/2 cup ajvar
1 egg

Steps:

  • Mix all the ingredients together well.
  • Divide into 12 portions and shape around the skewers in a sort of computer mouse shape.
  • Chill for about an hour.
  • BBQ (grill) for a few minutes on each side or until cooked through.
  • Nice served with yogurt and mint on the side or more Ajvar and sour cream.

WHAT FOOD DO MICE FIND IRRESISTIBLE!? - MOUSE TRAP GUIDE

From mousetrapguide.com

  • Honey, syrup, jam. Mice do like sweet things and a dollop of honey, molasses or maple syrup used as bait is a good way to get them investigating your trap.
  • Chocolate and candy. Like most of us, mice enjoy candy and chocolate. The problem with these is how to use them as bait. If you put a jelly bean on a snap trap, it can easily roll off so the mouse can enjoy it without going near the trap.
  • Hot dog, beef jerky and bacon bits. Mice like protein and just like us they love the smell of bacon. Hot dog and beef jerky are also good choices, because the meat won’t go off and so it will encourage them to try to eat it.
  • Wet pet food. Wet cat and dog food is designed to be tasty and smell nice, and mice will confirm this for you. With plenty of protein in it, you won’t need much to attract them.
  • Cheese. Some people shy away from using cheese in traps, but it can be very good bait. You need to remember that mice have a strong sense of smell, so a strong smelling cheese is the best to use.
  • Seeds and nuts. Mice eat seeds and nuts during the summer months when there are plenty about, so using them as bait works very well. If you put a nut on a snap trap though, you may not have very much luck, as one knock on the trap and the nut could roll off.
  • Peanut butter. Peanut butter is almost the number 1 food when it comes to catching mice. The consistency is perfect as it is easy to get it to stick on to any sort of trap and it’s not something mice can eat in a hurry.
