Mom made this all the time growing up. My step-sister recently e-mailed me asking for the recipe, thinking it had been from scratch! Of course, growing up our tastes weren't very refined and now i can tell that it's not from scratch. A few variations to the directions on the package and I still think it's delicious. My husband loves this recipe. I am not sure on the size of the egg noodles bag, but just cook up however many noodles your family needs.

1 lb ground beef
1 onion, diced
1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms (or you can use fresh)
1 (1 1/4 ounce) package beef stroganoff sauce mix
1 cup water
1 cup sour cream
salt and pepper
1 -2 minced garlic clove (optional)
1 (8 ounce) package egg noodles

Steps:

  • BROWN the ground beef with the onion and mushrooms and garlic if using.
  • STIR in Sauce Mix and water.
  • BRING to boil; cover. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat; stir in sour cream.
  • Serve over noodles or rice.

  • Brown ground beef, onion, and mushrooms in medium skillet.
  • Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  • Incorporate soup into beef mixture, add sour cream and heat through.
  • Serve over rice.

3 tbsps flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsps garlic powder
2 tsps onion powder
1 tsp parsley flakes
1/4 tsp black pepper coarse ground
1/4 tsp thyme leaves
2 tbsps oil
1 1/2 pounds boneless beef sirloin trimmed and cut into thin strips
1 cup water
1 container (8 oz) sour cream

Steps:

  • Mix flour, salt, spices and herbs in small bowl. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add beef; cook and stir 3 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Stir flour mixture and water into skillet until well blended and smooth. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and simmer 5 minutes or until sauce is thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in sour cream. Serve over hot cooked noodles, if desired.
  • Test Kitchen Tip: For Beef & Mushroom Stroganoff, add 1 package (8 ounces) sliced mushrooms when cooking the beef.

THICK & CREAMY BEEF STROGANOFF

This is wonderful when you have family that is always late. You can put almost anything you have in your kitchen in it and it will still come out okay. Can also be made by putting all ingredients in crock pot on low for at least 8 hrs.

1 1/2 lbs stew meat (tenderized works best)
1 onion, chopped
3 tablespoons butter
1 jar mushroom
1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 container sour cream, divided
white wine (as needed for taste)
Worcestershire sauce (as needed for taste)
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon pepper
milk (if needed)
flour (if needed)
cooked egg noodles

Steps:

  • Heat butter in large skillet.
  • Add stew meat, cook on med heat until browned stirring often.
  • Take meat out of skillet and set aside.
  • Add onion and saute in the butter until almost clear.
  • Add mushrooms, and cook until onion is clear.
  • Put meat back into pan, add cream of mushroom soup, wine, worstichire sauce, garlic and pepper.
  • Stir constantly until soup turns to liquid.
  • Decrease heat to Low, cover and simmer.
  • This can simmer for 10 min to 4 hrs depending on taste.
  • You can add flour to thicken it or milk to thin it out as needed.
  • When almost finished at half of the tub of sour cream.
  • Serve over cooked egg noodles with the remainder of the sour cream as a topping.

This is a favorite with all of my family. Not sure where my mother got the recipe so many years ago, but it is different than the creamy white stroganoff so many people make. It really is very good. Serve this with egg noodles or rice.

1 lb round steaks or 1 lb sirloin steak, cut into bite size pieces
4 tablespoons flour, to coat meat
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 minced garlic clove
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can tomato soup
1 cup sour cream (low fat works, but not no-fat)
6 -8 drops Tabasco sauce
1 (6 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
freshly grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Coat meat with flour and brown in hot oil.
  • Add the onions and garlic and saute until golden.
  • In a bowl, mix the sour cream,salt, tomato soup, Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Add to the meat.
  • Add the mushrooms.
  • Cook over very low heat for 1 hour or until meat is tender.
  • Serve over egg noodles or rice and top with Parmesan cheese.

1 lb beef sirloin steak
1 lemon
1 large onion, chopped
1 can mushroom, any size you like
1/4 cup butter
3 tablespoons sherry wine
flour
1/4 cup tomato juice
salt and pepper
1 beef bouillon cube
1 cup water
1 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Cut beef in small cubes and sprinkle with lemon juice.
  • Let stand.
  • Sauté onions and mushrooms in butter.
  • Lightly flour beef.
  • Remove onions and mushrooms.
  • Add sherry to pan and brown beef.
  • Add onions, mushrooms, tomato juice, seasonings and beef broth (made from bouillon cube and water).
  • Simmer 1 hour.
  • Before serving, add sour cream and heat through.
  • Serve over rice.

Not just another Beef Stroganoff recipe. Believe me. It is mom's recipe which she got from a good friend and it became, as I'm sure yours have to, one of the family favorites. I've changed it a bit--gussied it up with wine. You know how it goes.

2 lbs round steaks, cut into 1 inch cubes
3 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons dill weed
3 tablespoons flour
1 can cream of tomato soup
1 can condensed beef broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup dry white wine
2 (8 ounce) cans sliced mushrooms (or 1/2 lb. of fresh mushrooms sauteed in 2 tablespoons of butter)
1 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Brown beef cubes in butter over medium high heat in a large heavy frying pan with a lid.
  • Add onions and brown them also.
  • Add garlic and dill and stir for about 1 minute.
  • Sprinkle flour over all and blend in.
  • Mix soups together with a wire whisk and then add to beef mixture and stir.
  • Add wine and Worcestershire sauce and stir.
  • Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to medium low and cover.
  • Cook until beef is tender--about 20 minutes.
  • Just before serving, stir in mushrooms and sour cream and bring just to a simmer.
  • Serve with buttered egg noodles, rice or mashed potatoes.
