COPYCAT MCDONALD'S MCRIB RECIPE
Instead of waiting until the next McRib release at McDonald's, why not try making it at home? We were pretty amazed at the results.

Steps:
- Make the barbecue sauce by combining ketchup, molasses, Worcestershire, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, ground coriander, and 1 teaspoon salt in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat before reducing the heat to medium-low. Simmer the sauce for 15 minutes, until the flavors meld together. Let the mixture cool before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. If you don't want to make your own barbecue sauce, use one cup of store-bought sweet-and-tangy barbecue sauce.
- Meanwhile, chop the pork chops into 1-inch cubes. Place the pork cubes in the food processor with the water, white sugar, and the rest of the salt. Process the mixture until it's smooth, like ground pork.
- Divide the ground pork into four 4-ounce portions. Form each portion into a rectangle that's roughly 6-1/2 by 3-inches. Using your fingers, create indentations to make the patties look like "ribs."
- Place the patties on a piece of parchment paper. Cover the patties with another piece of parchment. Freeze the patties until they're frozen solid, about 2 hours.
- Remove the patties from the freezer. Preheat a griddle or cast-iron skillet over high heat. When the griddle is hot, add the pork and cook for 3 to 4 minutes a side, until browned on each side and cooked through. Let the pork cool for a minute or two.
- While the pork is cooling, spread 1/2 tablespoon of the butter onto the cut side of each bun. Place the buns on the hot griddle, cut-side down, until they're lightly browned, about 1 minute.
- Meanwhile, place one cup of the prepared barbecue sauce in a large bowl. Dip the pork patties into the barbecue sauce, letting any excess drip off.
- Place the pork patties onto the prepared buns. Top the pork with a few pickle slices and 2 tablespoons of the sliced onions.

- McLobster. Ah yes, lobster. Just what you want to order when you’re getting fast food. McDonald’s introduced their version of the lobster roll in 1993.
- McSalad Shakers. Back in 2000, before they introduced their Premium Salads, McDonald’s tried out something a little bit more unique: McSalad Shakers. They came in Garden, Chef, and Grilled Chicken Caesar options.
- McDLT. This is an old one: the McDLT was first introduced in 1984. It had its own custom-made container that was designed to keep the hot and cold parts of the burger separate until you were ready to eat it.
- Chicken Selects. In 2004, McDonald’s decided to try out a fancier version of their Chicken McNuggets with Chicken Selects, which were bigger and looked different.
- Eggs Benedict McMuffin. As weird as it sounds, in 2016, McDonald’s brought on an Eggs Benedict McMuffin to the menu many years ago… except it wasn’t even really eggs Benedict.
- The McJordan. This was a Chicagoland-only special. Michael Jordan pandemonium hit a fever pitch in the early ’90s, and this special proves it. Dubbed the McJordan, the sandwich was a cheeseburger on a sesame seed bun, complete with raw onions, pickles, bacon, and barbecue sauce.
- Fruit and Walnut Salad. In an attempt to bring on healthier options in 2005, McDonald’s introduced the Fruit and Walnut Salad. It was literally just apples slices and grapes with candied walnuts and a little yogurt.
- Mighty Wings. In 2013, McDonald’s expanded their chicken selection with Mighty Wings, which were bone-in chicken wings covered in a spicy breading. Sales were so low that the chain had to drop the prices.
- Fish McBites. If the Fish O’Filet doesn’t sound appetizing to you, then you probably won’t be impressed by Fish McBites either — apparently, a lot of people weren’t.
- Chicken Fajitas. Why did McDonald’s try selling Chicken Fajitas? This is a great question. They introduced Chicken Fajitas and Breakfast Burritos in the ’90s, then discontinued them not long after.
BEST MCDONALD'S DIPPING SAUCES, RANKED: IS HONEY MUSTARD ...
From thrillist.com
Estimated Reading Time 7 mins
- Honey Mustard. Goes well with: Chicken! Grilled chicken, battered chicken, all chicken. Chicken and honey mustard are meant to be. This dip is more honey than mustard, but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in tangy, peppery flavor.
- Spicy Buffalo. Goes well with: Chicken tenders and nuggets. I’d try it out on a McChicken too. Upon initial inspection, this sauce is kind of intimidating.
- Hot Mustard. Goes well with: Burgers, chicken, fries... anything you'd be inclined to put mustard on. It's mustard, but hot. If you’ve ever had hot mustard with your dim sum or prime rib, you know that it can be the perfect complement to a deeply savory dish.
- Sweet 'N Sour. Goes well with: To be frank, probably only McNuggets... I mean, I love this sauce with nugs so much, but it's so incomprehensibly sweet that I can't see it working for much else.
- Tangy BBQ. Goes well with: Burgers, fries, chicken -- basically anything that can use a dose of smokiness, which is most of McDonald's menu save for fish and desserts.
- Ranch. Goes well with: Nuggets, tenders, and chicken sandwiches. I can also see this working as a good swap for a Filet-O-Fish if you’re not wild about the pickle chunks in tartar sauce (though that tartar sauce is divine and you’re wrong).
- Signature Sauce. Goes well with: Honestly, nothing? I would dunk fries in this out of desperation. If you need sauce for a sandwich, ask for Mac sauce instead.

- Sweet and sour. There is something about the clash of the sweet and sour flavors we cannot get over. The McDonald’s sweet and sour sauce is a go-to for many, right from childhood.
- Sweet chili. McDonald released the sweet chili dip sauce in February 2010 to celebrate the Olympic winter games. The sauce was Asian inspired, which explains the flavors.
- Chipotle BBQ. Chipotle barbeque is not the kind pf sauce dip you would be excited for as its very basic. It tastes like any other regular BBQ sauce from your nearby grocery store or food cafe.
- Creamy ranch. What comes to mind when you think of a ranch? If it’s creamy and fluffy, then you have already defined this sauce dip. As the name suggests, the Creamy ranch is super creamy with a touch of strong herbs, onion, and garlic flavor.
- Hot mustard. Hot mustard is the kind of sauce deep you will find going back to even if you thought it was not outstanding enough the first time. Mustard is always the best sauce to accompany any savory dish, but this McDonald’s hot mustard takes it a notch higher.
- Honey mustard. What can go wrong with honey mustard? The two components are already great on their own, so you can only imagine the bomb combination! The sauce dip is more honey than mustard, of course, which explains the extra sweetness.
- Tangy BBQ. The word “tangy will have you expecting. Well, a really tangy sauce, but that’s not tangy BBQ. The sauce dip leans more on the BBQ side, giving it a signature sweet taste.
- Spicy buffalo. If I was asked to define just right, I would name spicy buffalo! The sauce is just right in a few words. It’s neither too thin nor too thick.
- Signature sauce. The McDonald’s signature sauce is one that’s hard to define. The signature sauce was originally designed to accompany McDonald’s crispy buttermilk chicken tenders.
- Szechuan Sauce. One of the widely popular sauces that many people aren’t aware of the szechaun sauce in Mcdonalds. This is the perfect compliment to their chicken nuggets.

- Church's Chicken Honey BBQ sauce. Honey barbecue can be a tricky flavor to get right. Too much of one flavor can completely overpower the other. And how are you supposed to get the taste of honey to stand out in the middle of strong flavors like tomato and smoke?
- Wendy's BBQ sauce. Smoke is obviously a pretty definitive flavor when it comes to barbecue. Pit masters and amateurs both love to debate the finer points of how to best get the rich, complex flavor of smoke into their food.
- Checkers/Rally's BBQ sauce. What is it that makes a barbecue sauce good? We can spend all day listing the different ingredients that we individually prefer, be it as common as brown sugar or as wild as chocolate or Coca-Cola.
- Shake Shack BBQ sauce. At this point, you may be wondering if there's anything new under the barbecue-drenched sun. Each BBQ sauce seems to think that it's really, truly groundbreaking, when really, it's just another sweet, smokey goop that tastes pretty good on chicken.
- Arby's Tangy BBQ sauce. Arby's has become famous partially because it rode to public recognition on the back of its sauces. Weird image, to be sure, but there are plenty of people that are willing to forge ahead because they just love that weirdly neon yellow cheese sauce slathered all over their roast beef sandwiches.
- Carl's Jr. Sweet & Bold BBQ sauce. True to its name, the Sweet & Bold BBQ sauce from Carl's Jr. is pretty dang sweet. It's also pretty bold, and for a solid reason: those french fries.
- Chick-fil-A BBQ sauce. People go nuts for Chick-fil-A. On many days, you can see a line snaking its way through your local Chick-fil-A's drive-through, despite the restaurant's image problem after its connections to anti-LGBTQ charities came to light, explains Vox.
- Whataburger Honey BBQ sauce. Don't you love tomatoes? If you're turning your nose up at this member of the nightshade family, you should really reconsider.
- Sonic Drive-In BBQ sauce. If you're sick to death of the ultra-sweet barbecue sauces that have become little more than vaguely smokey syrups, you might be in need of some vinegar.
- KFC Summertime BBQ sauce. Without becoming too much of a smart aleck, one wonders if a summertime barbecue sauce has a wintertime equivalent. KFC hasn't debuted any such special sauce, though we'll be sure to check it out if it ever makes it to the real world.

- Tangy BBQ. Tangy BBQ is the ultimate McNugget-enhancing sauce. It's tomatoey with a hint of tangy vinegar and just the right amount of smoke to being something special out of the crispy battered chicken.
- Signature Sauce. This sauce was developed to accompany McDonald's new crispy buttermilk chicken tenders, but I figured they'd probably go well with McNuggets, too.
- Sweet 'n Sour. This was my go-to McNugget sauce growing up, and it's nice to see that some things never change. The sauce has a sweet and slightly fruity flavor—which I was surprised to find out comes from the ingredient of apricot and/or peach puree.
- Hot Mustard. This hot mustard sauce is essentially the honey mustard sauce with the addition of a barely-there heat and a little more mustard flavor. It's not bad, and I didn't think it left much of an impression after tasting it—but I did keep going back for seconds once my taste test was done.
- Honey Mustard. McDonald's honey mustard sauce is pretty straightforward. It's a creamy mustard sauce with a strong, sweet flavor, and it goes great on a McNugget.
- Habanero Ranch. Habanero Ranch is by far the spiciest of McDonald's dipping sauces, which could be a good thing or bad thing, depending on your tastes.
- Creamy Ranch. McDonald's Creamy Ranch sauce is interesting. It's ultra creamy, with strong herb and garlic flavors coming through, but for some reason, it reminds me of a vegan ranch sauce, despite the inclusion of egg and milk.
- Spicy Buffalo. Full disclosure: I've never been a fan of buffalo-style anything, and a buffalo sauce will almost always rank at the very bottom of my lists.
