1 container (8 ounces) whipped cream cheese
12 slices sourdough bread
3/4 cup orange marmalade
4 large eggs
2 tablespoons 2% milk
Maple syrup, optional

Steps:

  • Spread cream cheese over six slices of bread; top with marmalade and remaining bread. In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs and milk., Lightly grease a griddle; heat over medium heat. Dip both sides of sandwiches into egg mixture. Place sandwiches on griddle; toast 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. If desired, serve with syrup.

Marmalade classes up this overnight French toast casserole. Throw this together before bed, then just pop it in the oven for 45 minutes in the morning!

1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 one-pound loaf of sourdough bread, cut into 1/2" slices
12 ounces orange marmalade
6 eggs
3 cups 1% milk
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup roughly chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Spread butter on one side of each piece of bread. Place half of the bread slices buttered side down into a 9x13 casserole dish, forming a single layer. Spread the marmalade over the arranged bread pieces. Top with remaining pieces of bread, buttered side up.
  • Whisk eggs in a large bowl. Stir in the milk, sugar, vanilla, and nutmeg. Pour the mixture over the bread, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
  • In the morning, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Sprinkle the walnuts over the casserole and bake, uncovered, for 45 minutes until golden brown.

Baked Stuffed Orange French Toast image

This is one of our favorites... it's great for Christmas morning! It's got all the Christmasy flavors, and it's assembled the night before. You can use any kind of marmalade/jam for the filling. I have used regular and sugar free jams. You can also use light cream cheese, 2% milk in place of the cream, egg beaters in place of the eggs... to lighten it up a bit. Hope it becomes one of your family traditions!

1 small loaf any dense bread, sliced about 1/2-inch thick
5 eggs
1 1/2 cups half-and-half (can use milk as well)
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup cream cheese
1/2 cup orange marmalade

Steps:

  • Butter a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Whisk together eggs, half and half, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  • Beat the cream cheese and marmalade until smooth.
  • Spread the cream cheese mixture on one slice of bread, and cover with another slice, making sandwiches. Place in baking dish, and continue to assemble sandwiches until the dish is full. (I usually do 1/2 sandwiches as well as whole to fill up the dish).
  • Pour egg mixture over the bread slowly, making sure each piece gets some mixture.
  • Refrigerate overnight.
  • Bake covered @ 350 for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake another 15 minutes, or until browned.
  • Enjoy!

8 2 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch slices French bread (each about 1 inch thick)
4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/4 cup marmalade
4 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
Orange Syrup

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300°F. Place baking sheet in oven. Cutting through top crust of each bread slice, make 4-inch-long by 2-inch-deep pocket. Stir cream cheese and marmalade in small bowl. Spoon 1 generous tablespoonful cream cheese mixture into each bread pocket.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon and nutmeg in pie plate.
  • Dip 4 stuffed bread slices into egg mixture, coating completely. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add dipped bread to skillet. Cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer French toast to baking sheet in oven. Repeat dipping and cooking with remaining 4 bread slices, egg mixture and 1 tablespoon butter. Serve with Orange Syrup.
