Since I'm originally from New England, this was a regular side dish in our home. Now that I live in the West, I've introduced it to all my friends, and they love it! It goes especially well with a holiday turkey dinner.

- Cut sweet potatoes and apples into 1/4-in. slices. Layer in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. In a saucepan, bring syrup, cider, butter and salt to a boil. Pour over potatoes and apples. Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour. Uncover and bake 10-15 minutes more or until tender.

- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Toss the sweet potatoes on a large, foil-lined rimmed baking sheet with the oil; season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Roast the potatoes for 20 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the oven and toss the potatoes with the syrup.
- Back in the oven, roast, tossing twice, until the potatoes are beginning to brown and are tender, about 15 minutes more. To serve, sprinkle warm potatoes with freshly grated lemon zest, sea salt, and nutmeg to taste.

- If using fresh sweet potatoes, place in a large saucepan or Dutch oven; cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and cook 25-40 minutes or until tender. Drain; cool slightly and peel. Cut into chunks., Preheat oven to 350°. Place sweet potatoes in a 2-qt. baking dish. In a small saucepan, combine butter, syrup, brown sugar and cinnamon; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. - Place sweet potatoes in a large saucepan with water to cover them. Bring the water to a boil, reduce heat, cover and let simmer 25 to 30 minutes until tender.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Use non-aerosol non stick spray to grease a 8x8 inch baking pan.
- When the sweet potatoes are cool, peel and cut them into large chunks. Arrange them in the prepared dish.
- In a small saucepan, melt butter, syrup, sugar and coconut together over a low heat. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Sprinkle mixture over sweet potatoes. Top mixture with pecans.
- Bake 5 to 7 minutes, until top is lightly browned.

- Heat the oven to 425 degrees, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut each sweet potato in half lengthwise, then slice each half into 3 or 4 wedges, 1- to 1 1/2-inches thick.
- In a large bowl, toss the sweet potatoes with the oil and salt. Spread onto the baking sheet in a single layer, leaving a little space between the pieces. (Use two baking sheets if you need to).
- Bake for 20 minutes, then drizzle with the maple syrup, toss, and return to the oven for another 15 to 20 minutes, until the wedges are deeply brown on both sides.
- Once you've tossed the potatoes, place the bacon on an unlined sheet pan. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes, until crisp and cooked through. Place on a paper towel to drain (pour fat from the sheet pan into a jar and store in your refrigerator to use later, or discard), then chop into 1/2-inch pieces and toss with sweet potato wedges and the remaining teaspoon maple syrup. - Preheat oven to 400°F. Butter 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish. Bring large pot of salted water to boil. Add yams. Cook until water returns to simmer, about 4 minutes. Drain. Rinse under cold water.
