Time 50m

Yield 12 sandwiches

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
10 slices bacon
1 12-pack pull-apart dinner rolls
6 tablespoons salted butter, melted
1/2 tomato, finely chopped
4 slices provolone cheese
3 slices muenster cheese

  • Split the whole pack of attached dinner rolls in half horizontally. Place the top and bottom halves cut-side up on a baking sheet. Brush with all but 1 tablespoon of the melted butter and broil until toasted, 1 to 3 minutes. Remove the top bread piece from the baking sheet. Flip the bottom piece and continue to broil until toasted on the other side, 1 to 2 more minutes. Remove from the oven and preheat to 400 degrees F.
  • Turn the bottom bread piece cut-side up and sprinkle with the bacon. Top with the chopped tomato, then shingle the provolone and muenster on top, alternating the two. Cover with the top bread piece, then brush the roll tops with the remaining 1 tablespoon melted butter. Bake until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted, 12 to 15 minutes.

BACON-CHEESE PULL APARTS

Bacon-Cheese Pull Aparts image

11/2005 Each bite is filled with breakfast flavors! You can taste the bacon, cheese, mushroom and green-onion flavors. Originally, this was a Pillsbury Bake-Off 41 (Hollywood,2004) recipe submitted by: Terri Barton of Salt Lake, Utah. It has been noted by one reviewer - that this dish should be used as a side to breakfast or brunch. Update: 07/21/2008. . . . . . . made this again for supper as I like to serve a light meal - we added more fresh mushrooms, we added more green onions, some pimentos and of course more eggs & bacon. :)

  • Lay bread on a cutting board. Use a bread knife to make diagonal cuts down through the top of the bread, leaving the crust intact. Repeat across the entire surface of the bread, making the cuts approximately one inch apart. Turn the bread 90 degrees and make a set of perpendicular cuts. When you are finished, the surface of the bread should be cross-hatched into 1-inch squares.
  • Stir garlic salt into melted butter. With a basting brush, basting syringe, or spoon, drizzle the melted butter down into the bread between all of the cracks until all butter has been used.
  • In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Use the side of a knife or the back of a spoon to mash minced garlic into somewhat of a paste. Mix garlic into cream cheese. Stir in cheddar, Swiss, and diced bacon and mix until well blended. Stuff clumps of cheese mixture down into all of the cracks of the bread.

  • If you're planning to bake this right away, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Cook bacon however you like (I like to cook small amounts of bacon in the microwave).
  • Make a series of diagonal slits in your loaf of bread, but don't cut all the way through - leave an inch or two connected at the bottom of the loaf. Rotate the loaf and make a series of diagonal slits in the other direction, so you create a bunch of diamonds. Gently use your hands to separate the bread.
  • In a small bowl, combine melted butter (if your loaf is smaller, you could go with a little less butter - say 2-3 tablespoons) with dried parsley and the minced garlic.
