Make Your Own Energy Bars image

A great little fruit and nut bar. These are so much better for you then those from the store. Original recipe called for regular flour I sub whole wheat.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup grape nuts cereal
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 beaten egg
1/3 cup applesauce
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons oil
16 ounces mixed dried fruit (or dried fruit cut up)
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line an 8x8x2 inch baking pan with aluminum foil. Spray foil with nonstick cooking spray. Set pan aside.
  • In a large bowl combine oats, flour, grape nuts cereal and ginger. Add egg, applesauce, honey, brown sugar and oil; mix well. Stir in fruit bits, sunflower seeds and walnuts.
  • Spread mixture evenly in prepared pan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges. Cool on a wire rack. Use edges of foil to lift from pan.
