I worked for Magleby's in Springville, UT and had the chance to copy down some of their recipes. This is the authentic recipe for their housemade BBQ sauce.

7/8 cup fermano's ketchup
1 3/4 cups fermano's chili sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons ground mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
6 tablespoons molasses
1/4 cup cola
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
1 tablespoon hickory liquid smoke
2 1/4 teaspoons fresh lime juice
1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne, sauce
1 tablespoon dried chopped onion

Steps:

  • Combine and simmer 20 minutes.

1/4 cup yellow onion, Finely Chopped
2 tablespoons garlic, Minced
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon ground mustard
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 teaspoons thyme
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
2 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup Jack Daniels Whiskey

Steps:

  • Sweat the Onion/Garlic in medium sauce pan with butter.
  • Add the ketchup to the saucepan and reduce heat to a simmer on low heat.
  • Add the rest of the dry ingredients/spices and stir.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients/liquids to the saucepan.
  • Simmer and reduce the BBQ sauce for 30 minutes, or until the sauce is the desired thickness. The sauce will thicken some when cooled.
  • Let the sauce chill and you're finished! Store it in an airtight container for later or get to grilling with it right away.
