This keto slow cooker pulled pork recipe is an easy prep and forget meal. The best part is no bbq sauce is needed to enjoy the flavours of pulled pork.

800 g shoulder/butt picnic pork roast
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp paprika ((smoked paprika will give a true BBQ flavour))
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp coconut aminos ((or soy sauce))
60 ml apple cider vinegar

Steps:

  • In a small bowl mix together all the seasonings, coconut aminos, and tomato paste.
  • Place the pork roast in your slow cooker, skin side down, then completely smother the roast with the seasoned paste.
  • Flip the roast so that the skin side is facing up. Add the vinegar to the slow cooker by pouring it to the side, no over the roast.
  • Place the lid on the slow cooker. Cook the roast for 10-12 hours on low or 8-9 hours on high.
  • When done, shred the roast and place the meat back into the juice to rest for 10-15 minutes. The pulled pork will absorb the flavours from the juice. Serve and enjoy! Leftovers can be frozen and used in another meal or two.

Low and slow makes the best pulled pork, and here's a recipe to do it in your slow cooker! If you don't follow the keto way of eating, simply add the barbecue sauce of your choice and about 1/4 cup brown sugar to the rub. I used my barbecue recipe published on this site, because it has no sugar. We really enjoyed this. Serve with additional barbecue sauce, if desired.

2 teaspoons smoked paprika
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground ancho chile powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (4 pound) boneless pork shoulder
½ cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
½ cup keto barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Combine smoked paprika, onion powder, salt, garlic powder, chile powder, and black pepper in a small bowl. Rub spice mixture all over the surface of the pork shoulder.
  • Place seasoned pork in a slow cooker. Add broth and liquid smoke.
  • Cover and cook on Low until pork is cooked through, 7 to 8 hours. Remove pork from slow cooker and shred.
  • Pour liquid from the slow cooker in a 2-quart saucepan, add barbecue sauce, and bring to a boil, stirring constantly, over medium-high heat. Cook until liquid has reduced to about 1/2 cup, 7 to 8 minutes. Pour over shredded pork and mix to combine.

sea salt and black pepper
1/2 cup chicken stock
1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce, extra for serving (I use this keto-friendly brand) Code PEACE for 10% off

Steps:

  • Preheat a slow cooker on the low setting. Season the pork generously with salt and pepper.
  • Put the pork in the slow cooker, add the chicken stock, and cook for 6 hours, or until the meat is fall-apart tender.
  • Drain most of the juices from the slow cooker, retaining only about 1⁄4 cup. Use two forks to shred the meat.
  • Mix the barbecue sauce into the meat and cook for 1 additional hour. Toss with extra barbecue sauce before serving, if desired.

  • For the pulled pork:.

Add the water to a large crock pot. Place the spice rubbed pork in the pot and cover. Cook on high for four hours, or until tender and falling apart.
