GRILLED HAM AND CHEESE SANDWICH
Not your average ham and cheese sandwich. It may seem basic, but this grilled ham and cheese sandwich is absolutely delicious if you follow the advice for the ingredients and the cooking methods. You will have people thanking you!!

- Begin by getting your fry pan ready on the counter. Butter one side of the bread with 1/2 tbsp of butter. Place the bread butter side down in the fry pan.
- Take half of the broken up peices of cheese and place them on top of the bread, trying to cover all the available places on the bread.
- Take the ham and twist each peice loosely so it folds in a small mound. Continue to do this with each piece, stacking them next to each other to cover the top of the cheese.
- Take the remaining cheese pieces and top the ham with the cheese.
- Butter the top piece of bread with another 1/2 tbsp of butter and place it, butter side out, on top of the cheese.
- Place the fry pan onto the stove over medium heat/low heat.Take your time grilling the bread as if you brown the bread too quickly, the cheese will not be melted. Keep an eye on the bottom piece and when it's nicely toasted, carefully flip the sandwich to the other side.
- Placing a lid on the fry pan helps with melting the cheese slightly faster.
- When the other side is nicely grilled to golden brown, remove the sandwich onto a plate. Let it rest for a few minutes as the cheese will be LAVA hot!! Cut in half after the wait time is done, and enjoy!

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine mayo, sour cream, seeds & pepper; stir in kraut; set aside.
- On a foil-lined baking sheet, place six slices bread--first brush each with melted butter (save some for the other half of the sammie); top with a slice of cheese, then 1/6th of the kraut mixture,then a slice of ham and two slices of cheese--do this on all six slices of bread.
- Brush remaining six slices of bread with melted butter; place on cheese--with butter side up, to make six sandwiches.
- Bake for 10 minutes (cheese is melted, bread is lightly browned)--turn once during that time.
- Remove from oven; slice diagonally, serve with pickles.
- SEPTEMBER HARVEST: Remember Johnny Appleseed by placing a few thin slices of apple between the ham and cheese.
- NEBRASKA REUBEN: Salute Omaha's claim to fame and use thinly sliced corned beef instead of the ham.
- CRUNCHY BITES: Add a few sunflower kernels to the sauerkraut mixture and honor those hardy souls in North Dakota who raise huge fields of sunflowers!
- BOOST YOUR PROTEIN: Stir about a 1/4-cup of cooked edible soybeans (edamame) into the sauerkraut mixture and thank a South Dakota farmer!
