This quick-to-fix combination is my favorite salad dressing. It gets its pleasant herb flavor from dill weed, celery seed and a handful of other seasonings. -Joyce Clifford of Mansfield, Ohio

1/4 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dill weed
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon celery seed
Salad greens and vegetables of your choice

Steps:

  • In a jar with a tight-fitting lid, combine the first 10 ingredients; shake well. Serve with salad. Refrigerate leftovers; shake well before serving.

Both sweet and tart served over mixed baby lettuce you'll feel like you're eating at a fancy restaurant. I also like this with fresh sourdough bread. From Firehouse Food: Cooking with San Francisco's Firefighters. Serve this in a salad of greens, dried fruit, and nuts or your favorite salad ingredients. This dressing is emulsified in the blender and can be kept for a week in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup honey
4 garlic cloves, chopped
1 tablespoon dried dill
1 cup olive oil
salt & freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Put the vinegar, honey, garlic, and dill in the container of a blender or food processor and process until smooth.
  • With the machine running, add the olive oil in a thin, steady stream until it is completely emulsified.
  • Season to taste with salt and pepper.

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 ½ teaspoons white sugar
½ teaspoon dried dill weed
⅛ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon onion powder

⅛ teaspoon dry mustard
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a blender, combine the oil, vinegar, sugar, dill weed, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, dry mustard and pepper. Blend until smooth, cover and refrigerate until chilled.

2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons orange juice, fresh squeezed
1 tablespoon honey (if you like sweet, add an extra teaspoon)
1 tablespoon canola oil
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard (more to aid emulsification than to add flavor) or 1/2 teaspoon brown mustard (more to aid emulsification than to add flavor)
1 dash garlic powder, to taste
1 dash cayenne, to taste
salt

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Blend with a wire whisk.
  • Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.

5 Tbsp pure honey

  • 1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk thoroughly. Pour into glass carafe. Serve as needed over mix field greens.
  • 2. If you prefer your oil emulsified, place all ingredients in blender and blend for one minute.
